I could not tell these two characters apart at all. Why did he get an Oscar for this? There's like a bunch of actors who played twins, where you can tell them apart from how they act.

blue hat = his name is smoke, because smoke has a blue-ish color in the air
red hat = the other one (stack)
they even wore color coded clothing indoors when they didnt wear hats. you have to be a literal retard if you couldnt tell these two apart in the movie
