Clive Barker Presents Editionprevious: >>219364869
>>219412468I'm gonna check it out anon
I'd like to see Lord Of Illusions remade. Actually I'd like to see a Harry D'Amour film trilogy with a hellraiser cameo
>>219426239we need some more detective horror in general.
>>219425850famkino>Lord of Illusions>Deep Rising>The Faculty>House on Haunted Hill
pretty good
>>219426692That it is, but I wouldn't call it horror. Na Hong-jin is a good director, if only he made movies more often. I'm waiting for Park Hoon-jung's new movie (not horror) to get a release. I don't think anyone does a better action/crime thriller than him.
Does anyone here listen to CreepCast? What do you think about it? Are there better horror/story/creepypasta podcasts? Give me something to watch/listen to where the hosts aren't this low IQ please.
>>219425850I don’t know why, but I always start laughing once this shit starts happening. I want an Ai remake of the Seinfeld episodes with this character as George’s boss.
>>219429146>I wanted to rule the world, but now I just want to be a Play-Doh FunFactory™.
>Jaws may be one of the all-time scariest movies ever made, but even the film’s director doesn’t think it’s a horror movie. In a new interview with Empire Magazine, in fact, the director of Duel, Jaws and Jurassic Park swears he’s to date never directed a horror movie!>Spielberg tells Empire, “I haven’t directed a horror film yet, and I’ve always wanted to, and someday I may. But there have been some great horror films out already that satisfy that itch,”.>He continues, “When I see a great horror film like Weapons, I don’t have an itch I need to scratch. I see Weapons, and it doesn’t make me want to make a horror film that’s as scary or scarier than Weapons. It satisfies me so completely, it actually arrests my desire to someday make a really, really scary movie.”
>>219430445but he directed poltergeist
>>219430867Nah that was Tobe Hooper, though he did have a hand in writing/producing it. Same with Gremlins.
Lmao some of the CGI in this was laughable. Cute chinese girl though.
I always wished In the Hills, the Cities was adapted into a short film. But it would almost certainly be some ugly CGI if done today.
>Kevin CorriganEvery time I see this guy I can't help but notice his super thin hairJust shave it all off, man
>>219434909kek
It's time to finally watch Cure (1997)
>We have Terrifier at home
>>219426450still over-rated
>>219429146Saw this for the first time a few weeks ago. Instantly drawn in, what a great movie. It was funny to see Kruger from Seinfeld as the main villain. Kramer's midget buddy Mickey is also seen briefly as a photographer. There were also 3 different actors with prominent roles that were on the X-Files circus-freak episode "Humbug."
>>219435792It's probably the weakest of Carpenter's Apocalypse trilogy, but still quite original and a great film.
>>219435687that poster fucking rocks and makes me want to see this
>>219435852this guy had a kino widows peak
>>219436522>Clive Barker's barely-disguised fetish is the secondary villain
>Looking through random horror movies on Tubi>Hmm it says this movie has 8.5 stars on IMDB, maybe it's decent>Check IMDB>3.6 stars
Anyone got any movie gripes that you just cant shake off? For me its pic. The movie itself is serviceable, but narratively Ive got a bone to pick with it. Firstly it opens with "the infection gets pushed back to the UK" and immediately im like nigga tf you mean? We saw that shit spreading in Paris of all places, the world should be fucked. And come to find out, the reasoning it didnt end right there was because they just immediately nuked Paris. And where do you learn this? From a fucking reddit ama by the director. Not in film text blurb, not even from a throwaway line by the Swedish kid. You just are supposed to completely ignore Weeks. Speaking of, its evident that the UN specifically waited those 7 months so that the infected would starve out, and this is supported by the ending of Days. So if the majority of the infected in the UK had died in that amount of time, and they clearly didnt get a huge influx of people in Weeks (most of whom should have already been killed by the bombings), how the fuck are there still roaming hoardes in Years?
>>219440506Forgot pic
>COSTELLO: Let me get this straight... this Thing copies people... hides inside them... and nobody knows who's who?>ABBOTT: Exactly.>COSTELLO: Abbott…>ABBOTT: Yes Lou?>COSTELLO: ...what if I'm the Thing?>ABBOTT: Oh don't be absurd Lou!>COSTELLO: That's a relief b-... Wait a minute - that's exactly what the Thing would want me to think!
>>219440506>Ive got a bone to pick with itYou should have a whole bone temple to pick with it. The plot is fucked, it can't tell if it wants to be serious or not. Like why would they leave the people abandoned there like Gilligan's Island and not air drop a fucking cellphone to them. They just want to have their cake and eat it too, have it be a comic book and a film.
>>219440752zozzle
>>219440985Again, that shit coulda been cleared up with that Swedish kid>yeah after the Paris incident, the UN claimed Britain as a lost cause and forbade any interaction with it. You so much as even approach the waters you get blown apart by the Americans. They'd have bombed the whole country if they didnt deem it a waste of money, they already lost one of the biggest market players in the worldFucking easy as. Stronger than even just the quarantine thing, and it at least nods to Paris so people ain't asking questions
>Proudly Filmed on 16mmPretty good /gstottenmayr/ flick. Jawdropping and grimy.
inferno > phenomena and it's not even fucking close
Good Luck, Have Fun, Don't Die is out on vod
>>219442098it looked pretty low effort from the trailer
>>219433368Yeah, the movie is ass and bafflingkino. Like how the fuck did Rick survive that fall? Why is the hotel and surrounding buildings all dilapidated and post-apocalyptic looking?
>>219443999Was definitely headed to retardville when they superhero flipped off the train
>>219442566The people who like Phenomena like one thing about it
>>219412468Well anon, I've seen worse but the ending really dragged, they needed to cut 20 minutes out of this. It was well shot for being so low budget though.
>>219426239Doug Bradley said on last drive in he would play Pinhead again if they made The Scarlet Gospels. He fights the Lord Of Illusions detective in it. I haven't read the actual book though, only about it, and a some people think it's ghost written.
>>219446308the scene of jcon grabbing the shelf and falling over?
>>219446308The scene where you can see her you know what?
>>219446308And we all know what that is
>>219442098>JawdroppingLol
>>219441601Sure but it just makes no sense anyway, it's painting over dirt. The real question is why did they retcon the ending of the last one. For a throw away joke about lip fillers? I guess they really thought they needed to save the rest of the world for the next 4 sequels.
Anybody here seen Gozu? thinking about giving it a shot tomorrow
About to watch Martyrs for my first time. What am I in for?
>>219450473No but we need more Miike reviews here because he has like 50 films
>>219450473Gozu is kind of like Miike doing In Bruges, from what I remember. I haven't watched it in nearly 20 years. I remember thinking it was one of the only movies where "Lynchian" was actually an appropriate descriptor.>>219450781Legit high quality but rough and sad.>>219450811Try 125.
>>219450781
>>219450781Le extreme
>Clive Barker PresentsBeing a pozzed faggot whose body is falling apart due to a degernate lifestyle.
>>219446385My expectations for this were so low, it was much better than I expected despite still being shit. I actually thought the lead actor carried the film pretty well, though.
>>219451159meanwhile based on that post, Craig Sheffer is still party rocking
>>219451489That's fair, even Perlman's geezer teaser role worked and wasn't cringe.
>>219425850>Clive Barker Presents EditionCaught this one playing at a nearby theater. I'd seen it once before a long time ago but I forgot most of it, including that it's based on a Clive Barker story. The investigative angle works well for the story and the main theme of it is surprisingly great, wanting to be made a legend, splitting into fame versus infamy, the desire to be feared forever versus the desire to be loved forever, and the racial angle really not being heavy handed, just used as a tool for a narrative. I'm still wary of watching the remake since I don't think a Jordan Peele project will handle the themes well, but I'll be watching the two sequels when I get the chance. If anyone else has seen them, what did you think?
>>219452056Also, Virginia Madsen is beautiful and her big naked boobies elevated the film
>2026>still no great and secret show adaption
>>219452056The remake SUCKS AAASSS. One or two ok kills but it's so spiritually devoid. The original is excellent. It gets the grimey underbelly of Barkers work right, and Madsen's character has a lot of depth that a final girl doesn't usually get. Barker is always infusing everyone with imperfections, though physically, she is perfect.
>>219452056It's the only good Clive Barker movie and the Peele reboot wasn't bad. The ending was dumb and it was heavy handed but it wasn't bad.
>>219452704Clive Barker is a terrible writer who appeals to autistic edgelords.
>177 days until Oct 1
>>219452834>It's the only good Clive Barker movie >>219452868>Clive Barker is a terrible writer
Should I sleep or watch a horror kino
>>219452957>Clive Barker is a terrible writerYes, he's terrible. His prose is incredibly clunky and his work sells based on its cheap shock value. 0 literary merit. Low grade slop that appeals to autistic edgelords.
>>219452918I'm so 'Weensick that I ordered Halloween Thai chili pepper seeds to grow
>>219452991the night is young anon. stay up and watch kino, I'm about to watch Dolly
>>219452991Why not both? I like falling asleep to familiar horror kinos
>>219435852That’s crazy. I wonder if they passed around word about while filming Seinfeld.
>>219453064I can't fight you on that since I've never actually read his books, but I very much enjoy his stories and all the movies he has directed
>>219453116>falling asleep to day instead of night
>>219453477I do the full trilogy, but Day is my favorite for the music and dialogue
>>219453370>someone who doesn't read enjoys Clive BarkerLol
>>219453556just joshin. interested though, do you prefer the original dawn or the argento version?
>>219453621You've caught me, Anon. I've never seen the Argento version, and frankly I haven't watched any version of Dawn in quite some time. It was the first one I consistently fell asleep to, but that was on VHS very long ago. Now I have Night on 4K and Day on blu-ray, but I don't have any version of Dawn on home video and it doesn't stream anywhere. I've been meaning to rewatch it for a long while now
>>219435852i wish barker made more movies, he made only three and they are all bangers. At least he is working on a new game
>>219453743I'm by no means an expect, you would have seen em more than me. I just watched Dawn not that long ago, got both and was flip flopping between them and settled on the Argento version because I liked the music more.
>>219453810Nta but I was listening to the ost on my way to see Super Mario this past weekend, easily my most relistened to osthttps://youtu.be/ITGi6T82hUQ
saw this after someone suggested it. Pretty cool, it replicates closely the style and atmosphere of a lovecraft story, what drags it down is the acting
>>219453810Music plays a big part in these movies for me. Night and Day both have very distinct and memorable soundtracks, but Day wins it for mehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RX9b1oB3UgwThe music combined with the dialogue makes it something I never get bored to listening to. I can picture the whole movie as I hear it
>>219453876>>219453935Ear kino
>>219453370if you enjoy his stories don't listen to the other dude and try reading his books. Try the books of blood which are collections of short stories, some became movies like midnight train or candyman
>>219453763I even like his adapted works, at least the ones I've seen
>>219453763He made two surreal short films as well. Aside from erect dick dancing, one interesting note about them is he already had the visual fascination for Pinhead's design.
>>219454106they can be hit or miss, for example "dread" is an amazing story but the movie is shit
>>219454296That's one I haven't seen, wonder if I'll like it more if I haven't read the story
>>219454223i'll check them out, thanks
>>219454331Nta but Dread is awful. I'm at about 10k excluding shorts on letterboxd, but keep a hated movies list that's only at about 150, and Dread's in there.
>>219454375top kek, that's both impressive and funny. I understand that though, sometimes you just hate a film.
>>219453888Chris Sarandon is definitely the strongest in the cast. Comfy film though.
>>219453090How was Dolly?
>PresentsWes Craven attached his name to some real tat after 'Scream'.
>>219453743this zombie girl was unmatched
>>219455264Lynch got lucky. So did Andy Warhol.
>>219455414They approached Lynch on that one.Warhol was actually behind the movies with his name on them
>>219455211It's about as by the books as you could make a TCM style retro-ripoff. But as other anons have said, it's competently done, and looks good shot on 16mm. By the end of it you have to give it to the guy who plays Dolly, everything they do looks like a major league hitter taking a swing.
>>219446308
>>219455578Huh, apparently the actor is a roided up they/them women's wrestler.
Just finished. Sheesh this was dumb. And boring. Script felt OLD, like it got repurposed or updated or something (based, ridiculously, off a book that came out in 2005.) Was surprised (grateful honestly) that it wasn't found footage. The crew seemed so unprepared, and $300M? Seriously? That place would've been torn to pieces, not a fucking chance that money would just be laying around. Casino set looked fresh and clean, too, bad production design. Really nothing I liked here, not even the girls.
>>219455578Loved it, small scale was a good idea. Seann William Scott took some ridiculous punishment, I was amazed when he came back
>>219456687I guess they were going for abandoned luxury hotel, not that that makes sense since yeah it'd be run through. Made me laugh that the guy finds the 300m, and then goes, ok this is my limit I'm gonna run out of the building without even picking up a handful of cash now.
>>219452056The funny thing is the original short story was about Brits in council houses. The movie added the racial aspect.
>>219456751Lmao, and it was because he saw a ratMovie was DUMB, lolAnd they brought one garbage bag to haul fucking 300M out with, hahaha
>>219456740The cgi on him was one blemish. I actually think I'd have rated it higher if they had done a final addendum, have Dolly lazarus once more, get into their own car, and have one last crack at her in a car chase scene. But yeah it was tight.
>>219456687Damn, that's disappointing, this was next up on my watchlist. Looks like Dolly will be my next watch.
>>219456782Also some of the cgi was fucking terrible kek.>>219456942NTA but even though it's severely stupid, it slid over my brain easily without actively pissing me off. Unlike a lot of films last year. Honestly I think 2026 has been far more enjoyable. A lot of 2025 films felt like they were trying to ruin my day.
>>219454223If one thing Barker likes it's describing people walking around with raging boners, especially demons.>>219454096The Books of Blood are genuinely some of the best horror writing around. Insanely creative.
>>219425850>>219429146>>219435852>>219436522I always liked the movie, especially with the deleted scenes. The music is great, the special effects are great... especially the shit in his skull, yuck. What I never got is why Swan doesnt believe in the afterlife why Nyx is obviously supernatural and has some demon powers. Or maybe I didnt understand this.
>>219457101>A lot of 2025 films felt like they were trying to ruin my dayI hear ya. The closest thing to that I've experienced this year is that new Netflix show "Something Very Bad Will Happen or Something", even just fast-forwarded through it.
Anyone ever experience watching a horror with a bad/hopeless ending and struggling to sleep afterwards, not out of being scared but just kinda thinking "how could they have survived, did they stand any chance?" especially happens with found footage films where it becomes clear they're fucked early on.
>>219452389Man, that would be fucking wild.
>>219457321I kinda expect things to go badly for the characters in a horror movie, anon, lolOccasionally one will surprise me with just how mean it is though, like Texas Chainsaw the Beginning
>>219453069Absolutely based.
>>219457321not really desu. I guess sometimes I think about what I'd do in that situation and if I'd get out.
>>219452834Kys baiter
>>219457393I know but there's a difference between people picked off by a serial killer and a "the door has disappeared and all the windows are barred up" thing where the characters are now completely at the mercy of something otherworldly or if they've been cursed by something. The latter tends to get me in the "what if..." scenario more often.
>>219452389Hallmark had the rights for Weaveworld for ages. I guess the whole "woman fights off aborted fetus monsters with her period blood magic" makes it a big ask for an adaptation, even if it's one of his lighter books.
>>219457498that sounds like The Suckling
>>219457573It's a small part of the book it's largely a modern fantasy, tinged with the weird feminism that runs through a bunch of his stories where the women are almost (and sometimes literally) deities.
>>219457141it's amazing how he managed to make work stories like "in the hills the cities" or "New Murders in the Rue Morgue"
>>219430445It's disappointing that Spielberg is so pretentious he thinks Jaws is too "clever" to be horror. If you read the Wikipedia article for Jaws his only reasoning for why it's not a horror film is because you only see the shark's fin for the majority its on screen which doesn't change that people still get eaten:>The delays proved beneficial in some regards. The script was refined during production, and the unreliable mechanical sharks forced Spielberg to shoot many scenes so that the shark was only hinted at. For example, for much of the shark hunt, its location is indicated by the floating yellow barrels.[65] The opening had the shark devouring Chrissie,[16] but it was rewritten so that it would be shot with Backlinie being dragged and yanked by cables to simulate an attack.[39] Spielberg also included multiple shots of just the dorsal fin. >This forced restraint is widely thought to have added to the film's suspense.[65] As Spielberg put it years later, "The film went from a Japanese Saturday matinee horror flick to more of a Hitchcock, the less-you-see-the-more-you-get thriller."[45] In another interview, he similarly declared, "The shark not working was a godsend. It made me become more like Alfred Hitchcock than like Ray Harryhausen." The acting became crucial for making audiences believe in such a big shark: "The more fake the shark looked in the water, the more my anxiety told me to heighten the naturalism of the performances."[26]Death of the author. Jaws is as straight forward of a horror film as you can get and I don't see how you can argue otherwise though I'd love to see anyone try without their heads exploding from all the cognitive dissonance. It's literally a documented scary film that made millions of people fear the ocean and sharks. Only one other horror film has had such a large scale real world impact like that and it was released two years prior to Jaws so Spielberg can suck a dick.
>>219457821the jannies at wikipedia have declared it a thriller
>>219457729fa-fa-fa-fa, fa-fa-fa-fa-fa, far worse than expected
>>219457934There is nothing more fucking annoying than "XYZ is more than just a horror", as if being a film that is scary as fuck isn't good enough, it has to be "oh this is actually a metaphor for the author wanting to fuck his mum" shit.Crimson Peak has a whole thing about the MC not being able to write a horror story, she had to make it more than that and include a romance in it too. It was funny then that the film came out and people were like "actually, this isn't a horror, it's a gothic romance"Also, Alien isn't about men's fear of pregnancy, they made the chestburster because they needed to come up with a way of sneaking the alien on board without seeing it.
anyone seen Undertone?
>>219458623It's on my list, and after watching Cure last night, I'll probably watch it sooner.
>>219458623It was very boring and (due to my own stupidity) I'm not even sure what happened.
>>219457821Jaws is almost beat-for-beat a classic slasher with a shark >opening scene with naked girl getting killed>townspeople not taking it seriously until they start getting picked off one by one>killer gets "caught", but it's the wrong guy>lore dump from older, mysterious figure>killer gets exploded by hero in epic endingNot to mention the 3rd film being in 3-D, another trope for horror franchises
>>219458073It's not horror but anyone wanting to watch Psycho Killer should just check out Stop Making Sense instead lol
>>219459333I thought it was fun. Like if Clarice Starling was chasing Jason/M.Myers.
>>219459034Good breakdown.
This movie is absolute shit, except the music used, that was great. Dialog, predictable plot & twist, acting, characters, effects, etc. It's all horrendous and I'm for it. This would be classified as a true "guilty pleasure" for me. There's something about how it all came together and the fact they just lean into the shittiness so hard. It doesn't once try to be something it's not. Some of the dialog is actually so bad it's funny. Even the school signs and title sequence leans into the bad humor.
>>219460066I think it's funny how the guy who shot/edited this is named Matt Leaf and it was made in Canada.
>>219460536That just adds to the humor of the entire thing even more.
