If Gurm dies before finishing his work I believe it will still stand the test of time as the greatest addition to fantasy since Tolkien. Some men's failures stand taller than others' triumphs, and that is more true for Martin than almost anybody. It might actually be better that he left us with a mangled, meandering, half-finished story than a tight, complete trilogy. Even if he can't finish it, it was a valiant effort that showed off his unmatched brilliance as a storyteller and father of many compelling characters, while also of course serving as a warning against the errors of our time, especially needless bloat and the "bigger is better" mentality.
