Why didn't anyone tell me it's actually kino?
>>
>>219442185
I dunno anon. My dad showed it to me when I was a teen. Love it so much. France needs to put out more aesthetic, exaggerated period pieces and royalist propaganda to boot.
>>
>>219442185
A bad poster can really make any movie seem awful. I've never seen this, but the poster makes me never want to check it out ever
>>

What's wrong with it?
>>

The font and sharpening makes me physically disgusted

Until the third act

One of the best to have ever done it, highly recommend for any lurking
>>
>>219442185
Was the monster just a lion wearing an armor?
>>
>>219443762
No, cause it clearly has wolf eyes. It's kind of ambiguous.
>>
>>219443762
just? like that's normal to you?
>>
>>219442185
This movie is fucking boring and I remember how the kino poster fooled me back in the day.
>>
>>219442185
Miyazaki ripped off this for Bloodborne aesthetic
>>
>>219442185
I thought this movie would have supernatural elements and was surprised when it didn’t, the trailers really implied that.

Yes.

Not many wolves in Africa.
>>
>>219442185
Is this Bloodborne the movie?
>>
>some video game has tri-corner hats
>spergs have to sound off about it
>>
>>219442736
ironic because 90% of people who recently watched this did it because of the Bloodborne outfits in the poster
funniest thing is that they only wear them for like 5 mins of the movie

I told you constantly.

5 minutes of pure kino. that fight scene in the rain is the definition of cinema.

This movie has a bunch of great transitions. There's one where Monica Belucci's tits blend into a mountain range which I still remember after all these years.

What I especially loved about that movie is that the plot follows pretty closely what actually happened historically (except for the ending, obviously).
The Beast of Gevaudan is still a mystery to this day, with no easy explanation (can't be a wolf, can't easily be explained away as a human serial killer either)
>>
>>219461457
>can't be a wolf
Why not?
>>
>>219462084
>Why can't be a wolf
On top of my head, but my memory may be a bit fuzzy, I haven't looked at this story in over a decaded.
>Well, first things first: wolves don't behave like that, at all. They attack by pack, they don't typically attack humans, and they especially wouldn't do it near within human settlements (they could attack children when they are out in the wild, easy preys)
>The beast was always a solitary hunter, attacked fully grown adults (as well as children), within villages and often seemed to kill just for fun
>Multiple witnesses lived to testify, people who would be intimately familiar with wolves, their description don't match any animal living in this area. Much larger, had a red stripe on the back, but also a long tail (unlike a bear).
>Got hit by bullets and walked away
You have to keep in mind that people back then, especially in this region, knew how wolves looked and behaved as well as anyone could be. On top of that, this wasn't the middle ages. This was already a fairly modern time, where rationality, science, anatomy and biology were a thing.
>>
>>219463554
this case has fascinated me as well when i saw the movie when i was 10, what the hell it could have been? Can wolf-dog hybrids create some big hellspawn
>>
>>219457552
Kek
KINOOOO
>>
>>219447290
that is so fucking kino
>>
>>219464770
gotta take into account the flight of fancy aspects when re-reading accounts from such eras
dunno if wolves had been eradicated by that point in that particular region of France but if anything it certainly would have most likely been a rabid wolf or some similar sized dog
def not a hyena or lion or anything which likely wouldn't have survived a rural French winter
>>
It's aesthetically great but it's also kind of a mess
>>
>>219465499
It's a good mess. Like an Eton Mess.

No, far from it
>rabid wolf
They were very familiar about these, too. Back then you even had official state records of killing done by wolves, listing rabid wolves separately.
The Beast was much larger than a wolf, too.
>>219464770
>what the hell it could have been?
Honestly, if you really want to put the supernatural hypothesis out of question, I think a weird hybrid of an imported animal isn't too bad (especially given that, IIRC, one of the noble in the area had a private zoo and brought animals from other continents there). Either that, or a serial killer dressing as a monster. Or both (serial killer using an animal he dressed in armour) which would explain how the Beast managed to escape the best trackers for so long.
>>
>>219450878
ooh no they used historical articles of clothing, what hack frauds!
>>
I did tell you. Why didn't you listen?

I think he's talking about the bone sword that turns into a bone sword whip.
>>
>>219452485
The Indian was some kind of shaman, and it's mentioned that his tribe ate the hearts of the dead to gain their strength and knowledge. The French man likely did the same after the Indian died and got his fighting skills.
The movie felt all over the place it would’ve been better as a simple period horror about fighting a monster kinda like Sleepy Hollow
