One of the underrated greats of capeshit. Capeshit before it became quipshit.
Its mind-boggling just how right off the pages the stories are and how every scene and line of dialogue is frame-for-frame a recreation of the graphic novels they're based on. You would be hard-pressed to find that level of commitment to recreating the source material.
The first one was sensational; the second one fell off hard and was stalled on for too long after two of the main characters from the previous film died. It just went out like a wet fart and it hurts we won't see anything like it or within its universe any time soon.

i remeber frank miller being popular in the 90s and 2000s comic book scene, but he is a massive chud, last i heard he had cancer, but i dont know if he beat it or not. havent really kept up with him.

300, sin city, dark night returns are all kino made by him

Yeah. This isn't caoeshit. It's trenchcoatshit. Likemold crime pulp novels.
Not all comics are superheros, even if that genre dominated in the US for decades. Publishers like Dark Horse and creators like Miller tried to expand mainstream comics in the 90s. Even Hellboy really isn't a superhero, more pulp adventure and horror.

Really? I have nonidea what that means anymore. Are you being ironic? Sure, he was very much anti-Islam after 9-11, but also has been very vocal about being anti-Trump as well. He even did a comic about heroes resisting Trump who was a puppet of Darkseid

Sin City fell off HARD after Marv's story. The other stories were so weak and underwhelming in comparison.

Marv's story is one of the greatest pieces of cinema ever created.

I mean, its true. its noir for people that have never watched an actual noir movie. like a porn parody version of one
>>
>>219442204
One of the best movie adaptations of comic book. Extremely ironic as comic book was made for very purpose of having too much sex and violence for Hollywood. Great film, but could have been better, because they had to have sequel and the most iconic character of comics in it. So they picked 3 of 4 best Sin City stories while leaving actual best one for sequel. Should have left Big Fat Kill out of it and made the movie from Sin City (aka retroactively Long Goodbye), A Dame to Kill For and Yellow Bastard. That leaves only material not good enough for sequel and world is saved from subpar sequel.

>>219442592
Not all comics are capeshit. When it comes for quips, Sin City is full of all kinds of kinda self aware and self referential dialogue.

>>219455314
Whole point is Sin City was to make something that had too much sex and violence for Hollywood after studio did its thing to Robocop 3. Had Robocop 3 made the way Frank Miller wanted, we would have just bad Robocop sequel instead of horribly bad one and no Sin City.

>>219455397
It is neo Noir by default. Whole point of Film Noir was to undermine Hollywood production code that held from 30's to early 60's. Whole retroactive genre is about that and malicious compliance to the production code. Evil always gets thwarted at the end, because bad guy always makes mistake, a retarded mistake that is, so obvious that our heroic private investigator only lucks out. Cops are always good, you might get away with a corrupt cop, in Sin City there is one good cop and even the kinda good ones are on the payroll of the corrupted elites that get away with murder, cannibalism and rape.

>>219455036
There was never enough source material to adapt into a good sequel. A Dame to Kill For is easily the best Sin City comic, leaving it out of first film is the biggest Sin of the Sin City movie.
>>
movie is trash with no redeeming qualities. sorry to burst your bubble

>its has the gimmick of looking like a comic
This and comic itself is kinda crudely drawn and overtly stylistic, kinda style over substance when it comes to visuals.
>>
>>219442204
Reading in to the filming makes it sound like it was destined to fail. It had all the hallmark's of a troubled production yet it turned out so well. The director really got it to come together well considering there were entire months between actors finishing scenes where they were then crafted together

I think this, 300, Watchmen, Kick-Ass and Men In Black are the best comic book movies ever made. I swear we were getting some amazing art before Disney bought Marvel studios. Fuck them straight into the ground I hope they can't dig their way out of their current mess and they have to go bankrupt.
What the fuck happened to the directors? The sequel was appalling. Complete lack of spacial awareness, way too many things with color, layers upon layers of png images being moved with keyframes. It all looked like weightless trash
>>
>>219459200
Yes, it had none of the same actors and took place entirely on a green screen boat. No Snyder either. Even Eva Green's bare titties couldn't make it watchable.

It wasn't as kino as the first but it was good nonetheless ; it actually went deeper in depicting the greeks as morally ambiguous protagonists (artemisia's background) and actually humanized the persians a little bit (xerxes's revenge)
also the final scene was top kino, I know that the whole "the cavalry arrives at the last hour" is overdone in fiction but I was genuinely thrilled when it happened

Yeah, though it is an intentional stand-out line/visual. Like of course his hands are coming with him on his trip, but him pointing that out/referring to them as weapons is funny. It's basically a punchline and judging by the additional replies, it resonates with a lot of viewers.
But still, you're right: a joy of life is realizing how shared the human experience can be, I suppose. People all over the globe enjoy Mickey Rourke's mitts. A positive thing to think about and always be on the lookout for, never finished. "God keep me from ever completing anything."
