It's always impressed me that Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory (1971) was so precisely crafted as a Christian parable. Moreso than the original Charlie&TCF novel, as Dahl was not particularly religious himself and mostly intended it as a fanciful critique of industrialism. This is also in acknowledgement of the not-infact-irony of Jewish actor Gene Wilder (one of the, dare I say it, "good ones") portraying its central figure of Wonka himself, which is indeed rather fitting as he represents the vengeful, slow to forgive Abrahamic deity that is ultimately transfigured into benevolence by the compassion of his mortal yet divinely chosen successor. The movie quite beautiful charts the course of Man through the Judeo-Christian experience.
