Should I read "The Lord of the Rings"
I'm reading The Hobbit.I wish I could erase my memory of all the films and read the books with a totally clear mind. You should. The Hobbit is charming though there are the rare syntactically archaic british sentences that may read/sound as awkward or unnatural to modern folk.
>>219456756I read The Lord of The Rings years after watching the movies. I had very few memories of the movies but it was a great read regardless. Now I totally understand why teenagers get sucked into this fictional world long after they read it and reached adulthood. Charming is the word.
>>219456636only if you are a fucking dork
>>219456636Yes.
>>219456636It was dreadfully boring
>>219457742Very low iq. Its not even tough compared to older literature or cormac mccarthy. GoT has more characters and locations
>>219457783Didn't say it was tough, just boring, the story is only an excuse to show his world building autism and if you don't already care about that it's not engaging at all
>>219456636depends, do you want to read about trees for hours on end?
>>219456636Yes.It start slowly and Hobbit-like though.
Why is it so kino when Tolkien write pages after pages describing the landscape or even a single tree but it sucks so much when GRRM does the same with the description of meals and feasts ? This isn't a whataboutism, I genuinely think that Tolkien is better than Martin and I wonder why when they both use over description
>>219463858Tolkien is a better writer and more influenced by poetry.
I thought FotR was really good. TT was okay but I thought it was a little boring at times, and I got really mad when the ents defeated Saruman entirely off screen. By RoTK though I was just like "I don't know who the fuck any of these characters are please just go back to Frodo".
>>219456636If you take one more step, will it be the furthest from home you've ever been?
>>219456636You have my permission, anon.
>>219456636Listen to an audiobook.
>>219465085SecondededRob Inglis does all three books and the hobbit and he has a good voice for it
>>219456636Yes. If you are a human being the idea of actual heroes triumphing over seemingly insurmountable odds will resonate with you. Ideal types that show what it means to be a human in the best sense. That there are ideals that are worth it to strive towards in your life; courage, loyalty, honesty. The films are good but the themes of the story that are in the books are so much better conveyed, so much richer in the writing it's insane. There is still hope for a better world, that is the feeling that remains.
>>219456636How much do you like trees and rocks? If it's anything below 10/10, no.
