because consistency = brand recognition, genius. homer without the white shirt and blue pants stops being "Homer" and starts being "random yellow dad #4."

also it’s a production thing. when you’re pumping out hundreds of episodes over decades you don’t want to redesign outfits every week. same reason peter’s been fat in that exact same fit since the 90s. it’s visual shorthand.

anime swaps outfits because they have seasons and breaks. western cartoon characters are trapped in eternal sunday stasis. they don’t age, they don’t grow, and they sure as hell don’t update their wardrobe unless it’s a gag episode.

tl;dr: cartoons wear uniforms because they’re brands, not people.
