UK versions are good. So many of the Amazon versions don't get the real idea of the show. Australia is one the best ones. The Swedish version is way too hectic and always does the laugh reveal only after it has happened.

this irritates me to no end. plenty of comedy stuff just doesn't translate (look at the Red Dwarf and Peep Show US pilots).

but a basic premise like Whose Line Is It Anyway? seems pretty universal. apparently, American comedians get more competitive about comedy game/panel shows. they actually care about winning.

It's painfully cringe. Everyone is trying to be the best deadpan, but deadpan only works in contrast to other personalities. Plus when absolutely nobody is laughing or even smiling, it doesn't really put me in the mood to laugh or smile. Just huff and roll my eyes. They tried to fix this problem by inserting 1-second B-roll clips of Jimmy and the tart laughing aimlessly at nothing. It didn't work. Thoroughly unenjoyable. Sucked the joy out of a recent gathering. Possibly useful for that purpose if you have a manic friend or child who has forgotten to take their mood stabilizer.
