Name a show with more squandered potential than picrel.
It genuinely still pisses me off how heavily the quality dipped in the second season. They had such a cool original concept, and a huge amount of intrigue built up but completely wasted it.
Any shows you know of that have suffered similar fates?

the leftovers. big happening, plenty of buildup to potential of finding out what happened, interesting side characters like the guy who was suspicious of dogs, all thrown in the garbage for lol it's not about the event it's about how people deal with it that's why the cop became the literal jesus christ or something
>>
>Series has a good first season
>Drops spaghettis in the second
>This happens 99.9% of the time
>Anons never learn and just keep consuming new series that endlessly repeat this pattern
>>
Severance season 2 was mostly saved by a kino finale but I hated how much fills the season had

Also weird character choices

>lets have the scientist black woman constantly shout and refuse to explain anythjng and also mark never asks questions because we don’t want the audience to know the answers
>>

>a huge amount of intrigue built up
I found that intrigue worthless and just dropped it after S1, despite kinda liking S1.
The plot was never the fun part, it was the weird corpo dystopia hell setting. I don't care for the characters' fates at all, so I stopped watching when I realized the focus will shift to that. I didn't even manage to finish ep1 of S2 because of how little I cared by then.

The "mystery" was revealed and it turned out to be a wet fart. The show became reddit incarnate after S1.
Lynch knew to never show his hand. The best way to keep the audience engaged is to keep them wondering.

I've always wanted to give westworld a shot, but I don't know if I should watch the original or the new one.
A bit hesitant since it just seems like blade runner with extra unnecessary steps and no cyberpunk.
>>
>>219465813
Neither the 1973 film or the 2016 show are particularly great, they're "ok" at best. Even Season 1 of Westworld (the show) isn't as great as people make it out to be. But, if you've watched all the kinoes you could possibly want and have nothing left to watch, I'd say why not, go for it.

I've now seen the same pattern repeated through many different shows.
People love intrigue and mystery, but when you actually resolve the mysteries everyone is disappointed and angry.
People want to believe in some amazing story that could have happened if you hadn't fumbled it, but there is no such story, and any attempt will be declared a fumble.
The only solution is to string the audience along forever like LOST or One Piece. But everyone will hate you when it ends so you have to die before you can finish the story like Berserk.

>>219465448
I couldn’t even tell you one thing that happened in season 2. It was such forgettable shit.
>>
>>219465813
Don't.
>>
One common theme of high concept shows that end up being shit is a lack of interesting characters. TV shows are all about characters.

Severance S2 was such a letdown. I never managed to finish it. I was so fucking bored I tapped out halfway through.

for all mankind was a fantastically original idea, nicely done, recently it's trying so hard to be a 2nd rate expanse for some reason

>>219466918
they keep doing this- 'SEE' was a brilliant idea, amazing worldbuilding, something we take for granted like eyesight as a frightening myth- all for studio suits to turn it into 2nd rate job of thrones

Season 3 taken on its own is kino. 2 and 4 were absolute shit.
>>
>>219467188
I don't get this one desu.

Westworld S1 was a singular and complete story, and taken by itself it's very close to a 10/10. It didn't need anything more, maybe some parts could have been cut to tighten it up but that extra content didn't hurt it.

Westworld S2 was fine as an extended coda for S1 (but could have been done in two or three episodes), and it was fine as a second act in a longer Westworld story. It's just a bit sloppy, disjointed, and retread some of the points that S1 already made perfectly well.

I think what people are reacting to is a 10/10 and completed story turning into a 7 or 8/10 that was part of a second act in a longer story.

>>219467512
It sucks that it ended on the weakest season. Season 3 really had something special though. Makes me wonder if the best format for Westworld would have been a 'one and done' S1, and then ten years later they make the storyline from S3 into another 'one and done' season.
>>
>>219465448
Iwas surprised there wasnt more SlopTube content shitting on this thing. Truly one of the worst written seasons of Television I’ve ever seen.
>>
>>219465448
>They had such a cool original concept, and a huge amount of intrigue built up but completely wasted it.
no, they just had a cool original concept, and tried to stretch it to 2 seasons by inserting random nonsense (that you call huge amount of intrigue)
>>
>>219465564
Agreed. But /tv/ midwits love a mystery box.
>>
>>219468959
IDK man, I think they wasted the premise in another way. It would have worked fine as a film, but also it would have worked great if it was in the 'sit-com' format. It should have been 'The Office' in the weirdest workplace, and the meta-narrative, lore stuff is just dripfed in gradually over every episode. They could have milked that for five years easily.
>>
>>219466975
It's a lot cheaper to make a 2nd season and fill it with character drama than it is to produce something good. Showrunners are usually happy just to have something get picked up that they'll do what they're told.

i can't understand how you can think that severance seaon 2 was bad yet at the same time think westworld season 1 was not

Yes. They promise the world and fail to deliver. They ask for trust and so you do, and then they betray your trust. It's like being told you won the lottery, so you have an awesome party, but are later informed it was a lie. Time and again those cocksucking writers raise our expectations only to crush them later.
