I only ever saw Wilford Brimley on those commercials so when I saw The Thing I was surprised to find out he was an actor. I thought he was just the 'beetus guy.

watch the scene where he does an autopsy on splitface, at one point he takes a swab that he previously used to poke around in the alien body and then when he muses about its origins he puts the swab to his mouth.

Saying it was possible for the Thing to spread like an infection in addition to just forcibly assimilating thing was a really dumb storytelling decision.

We dont know if you can be partially infected but still mainly human. Some of your cells could be thing cells but you still test human cause you havent reached a turning point
