What happened to the remake?
Smothered in the cradle, hopefully.
>>219476563Why?
>>219476631when will you people learn
>>219476668What people? Learn what?
>>219476697There's no hiding place down here.
The animated movie didn't get the attention producers wanted so they concluded there's just not very much interest in reviving the franchise.
>>219477519and that's a good thing.
>>219477243Hiding from what? Make sense.>>219477519Cause that was a lame "remember when"
>>219476536The CW was in the process of being bought out around the time development was announced, new owners had no interest in producing shows of their own which lead to every show on there ending abruptly or getting cancelled outright, which includes projects in development including Babylon 5 remake and a new Dark Shadows sequel series
>>219476536they looked at all the star trek series failing and concluded people hate scifi tv shows
>>219477710>Dark Shadows sequelHow the fuck do you exactly do that when A. Barnabas is implied to meet his end curing his vampirism and B. The actor who played Barnabas in the original has been dead for years?
>>219478497You do what most soap operas do and just recast the character
>>219476536It failed
Can't figure out whether I like Gqar or Londo more. Londo is more entertaining but Gqar starts to dispense wisdom like a sage, even as early as s2
Babylon 5 had a definitive ending the first time and was a science fiction masterpiece, what the fuck would remaking it accomplish? It's like if they remade Star Trek: The Next Generation, what would be the point?
>>219476536It was going to be produced by CWIt would've been woke pandering garbage that's only selling point is having gay Minbaris or some shit
idd a floating benis
>>219480477>what the fuck would remaking it accomplish? For the production company: profitFor the fans: some new stories and modern visualsFor JMS: Trannies everywhereDoing a straight up remake would be a mistake. No need to tell that same story again, even with better CGI, new actors, and some different takes on events. Just reuse the same universe they built and come up with new stories to tell in it (which is what some of the Turner stuff attempted but did a meh job doing). While the Babylon 5 story had a definitive ending, the whole point of the last episode of the show was that even though B5's story came to a close, the universe goes on, with the B5 events eventually becoming just another page in the pages of history.
>>219480984also, part of B5 charm was the fact we DID NOT know where was the story going. there was no source material, no spoilers, just the foreshadowing.they already tried playing with this in the last animated movie, like> what if shadows, but years earlier?woah, what a twist, this changes everything, mind blownmehfinish Crusade or do something new
>>219479507>even as early as s2even in s1, remember how he warned Sakai about The First Ones
>>219479507G'Kar
>>219480984you could do the stories they couldn'tthe double 5-year story, Sinclair going all the way, Delenns more radical transformtion, Talias proper arc, Marcus, the agents of the Shadows, etc
>>219480868It's an O'Neill cylinder
>>219477243but I went to the rock o hid my face
>>219476536Am I the only one who liked Crusade? It felt like some alternate reality where the boss from Office Space and Daniel Dae Kim are the main characters of Babylon 5
>>219483491>Talias proper arcSurely you mean Takashima and Lita's proper arcs?
>>219483654I liked the premise, but you can see in the 13 episodes they are struggling with TNTs meddling
>>219484215Didn't JMS piss them off by spending the money they gave him for a reunion episode on the Crusade sets instead?
>>219484277No.They studied the ratings and found that while Babylon 5 did well its audience was not watching subsequent TNT content and TNT viewers were switching off from B5.An important part of programming and ratings is leading in and retaining viewers, to keep them watching.Somehow they decided to back out of the deal and decided they'd achieve this by making impossible demands of the production to force JMS to quit or give themselves an excuse to cancel it.Some of the demands being made:* change the uniforms* drop mentions of B5* drop the plague subplot* fights in every episode, staged like pro wrestling (remember that TNT had WCW Nitro at the time)* a character that is a sexual explorer, having sex with aliens (what is this Lexx?)>reunionThere was already an episode filmed with Dr. Franklin, a Bester episode had been written for the first season and more B5 characters would have appeared over time
>>219484479oh another demand: a pilot episodethe tv-movie has been made and they've approved the series but they still insisted on a pilot restating everything in the tv movie
