The Fellowship of the Ring is in a league of its own.
>>
I think it's an almost perfect movie, I doubt that's a controversial take.

Just for something fun to talk about, if you had to change ONE thing, what would it be?
>>
>>219479539
The movie should end when they leave the shire.
>>
>>219479539
I wish the same people that made lord of the rings the fellowship of the ring made the other 2 movies. :(
>>
>>219479570
it's the most boring of the three
>>
>>219479570
it's hobbit slop
>>
>>219479570
There was no Denny's tie in breakfast to fill my hobbit hole.
>>
Do you think LotR would have benefitted from the series format? I don't mean Rings of Power, I mean LotR as it was back then, Peter Jackson, same production, same actors and so on, but more screen time.
>>
>>219479953
I don't think dragging it out any further would have improved the production much. A lot of the extended edition scenes are already a slog, especially in two towers and return.
>>
>>219479570
Keep the 17 year time jump between Bilbo's party and Frodo leaving the Shire. 1-2 hours of slow TV style scenes about life in Hobbiton - gardening, brewing, cheese-making, jam-making, interior decorating.
>>
>>219479570
More time exploring Moria seeing awe striking things. Moria is the peak of LOTR and the best part. Their journey is supposed to take around three days but it ends all too swiftly
>>
If I could change one thing it would be nothing.
>>
>>219479592
The fuck?!
>>
>>219479570
Tom Bombadil

>let's immediately kill the stakes of the movie for no reason
okay, good idea.
>>
>>219479570
Change Farmer Maggot's name to Farmer Faggot
>>
yeah it's a pretty good movie. It's the only one I bother rewatching
>>
>>219479570
let stephen colbert write it
>>

It was ALMOST perfect

But of course Hollywood had to lean into the whole Sam and Frodo are gay thing. Why do they feel the need to shove lgbt propaganda into every piece of media ever? Neither Frodo or Sam were written like that in the books.
>>
>>219479570
Sam’s actor. He’s really bad, he tells all his lines and doesn’t even try to match the other hobbit’s accents.
>>
Every time me and the boys marathon these I kind of check out after FOTR and only really check back in for Theoden speeches. I wish the barrow wights were in it.
>>
>>219479570
Longer runtime
>>
>>219479953
“No”.

Game of Thrones already gave us a perfect test of what happens with this type of subject matter in a serial… you keep pulling the rug out on the audience going for surprising/interesting endings until the story falls in on itself and every possible avenue gets exhausted quickly.
>>
>>219483439
that's just because GRRM, D&D, and whatever faggots they have writing ROP are spiteful cunts who think that being shocking and unexpected is better than creating a satisfying narrative. With a clear roadmap like LOTR has and a trustworthy man at the helm (PJ in 2000) it could definitely work. The main issue would be that prestige TV didn't exist at the scale necessary to make it well at the time.
>>
>>219479539
The writing and editing are absolute dogshit.
>>
>>219480877
This is the big problem. Nothing feels as epic as it should because of the absolutely horrid pacing.
>>
>>219479953
Only if they did the necessary number of episodes, no more, no less. So three seasons with different numbers of episodes. If you do it this way you can add just enough filler that it doesn't come across as filler, but real world building.

I am no longer able to force myself to watch Two Towers and Return of the King.
The feel like a slog with no wonder component that made Fellowship so great.
In Fellowship we go from peaceful green hills of Hobbiton to rainy dirty Brill, to swampy Eregion, to beautiful autumn Rivendell, to snowy peaks of Caradhras, to dark mines of Moria to golden Lothlorien to forests of Anduin.
In Towers it is just grass steppes for 3 hours.
Same with Return.
And the characters barely travel, they just talk and fight.
Surely story beats are here but between them are rather boring parts.
Fellowship feel the only one worthy of watching.
It is 10/10, while TT and Return are like 6/10.
>>
>>219479570
1-2 hour long Tom Bombadil interlude. Seriously.
>>
>>219479570
the fellowship does not dissolve, they continue together all the way up to mordor (with various side quests to helm's deep, isengard and minas tirith to not disclose their true purpose)

Frodo creates a ring of power, stronger than Sauron's ring, and then destroys Mordor
