>>219487869The most popular comedy director was a guy named Eldar Ryazanov, who did a lot of sentimental romantic comedies (as opposed to surrealist or absurdist ones). His 1970's films in particular like Irony of Fate and Office Romance were some of the most popular ever released in the USSR. They are kind of interesting to watch, since they are kind of a weird mirror of western films of the era.>>219487822Zerograd for late-Soviet absurdism, Cranes are Flying for 1950's post-Stalin WWII sentimentalism, Red Snowball Tree as a doomercore crime drama, the 1960's War and Peace for huge sets and elaborate costume drama, the Liberation series for the official Soviet version of WWII, Visitor to a Museum for late-Soviet surrealist science fiction, Kin-Dza-Dza for sci-fi comedy, Little Vera for late-Soviet domestic drama, Siberiade for an epic historical family/village drama as Russia became the USSR, and the Italian co-production The Red Tent for one of the best dramas about Arctic exploration.

Written, directed and starring people that went through it and it shows. >>219487822>>219487869https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CLjLLHDUiiAOne of the most iconic comedies. I do think it's weirdly paced, more like a series of vignettes. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xqsa4u00GXMA very "soviet" comedy, a bunch of people in the room arguin which plots in a cooperate garage should be cut because of new road.
>>219487822I'm a big fan of Alexander Ptushko's fairytale films, particularly Ilya Muromets and Sampo.
