>Makes the same fucking movie three times in a rowThe movie wasn't bad but holy shit who knew the guy who would rather be an actor than director be the talent while the other one is a hack. The Smashing Machine mogged this. Its soundtrack mogged this too.
i thank god i am not yet forced to watch this guy's movies
just watched this last night. Big Safdie fan. Good time is one of my all time favs. This one was really odd though. The amount of times it oscillated between being total dogshit, and complete kino was crazy. I honestly don't know how to feel about it.
>>219489300I agree. I gave it a 6.5/10. Everything after he eats Gwenyth Paltrow's pussy in the park was pretty much kino.
>>219489255https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yqh-WPtmWMoThe Smashing Machine has one of the best soundtracks of all time. It really isn't talked about enough.
Safdie bros aren't the same without each othersomething is missing in both Marty and Smashing machine. The magic isn't there
>>219489375what do you think was missing from the smashing machine? i loved the ending and cut to the real mark kerr.
>>219489255there was an incredible amount of actual shit which could have been cut out. this movie did not need to be 2h30m
>>219489632>there was an incredible amount of actual shit which could have been cut out. this movie did not need to be 2h30mNiggas say shit like this and tell you Project Hail Mary was movie of the year.
movie takes place in the 40s or 50s but the movie is spamming 80s music. some megahack shit.
>>219490616>muh dissonance>muh mise en scene>>219490254Hail mary was an 8/10, none of the earth story actually lands after they figure out how to reproduce them and just contributes to a weird pacing that feels simultaneously rushed and bloated by focusing on stuff that isnt given an adequate payoff.
>>219491108Dude. I was waiting for you to turn around and say "/tv/ is not one person"I'm really disappointed in the current state of /tv/ if this is a real opinion. This place needs to be 35+.
>>219491108How old are you? Are you a zoomie?
>>219491246>>219491293Are you saying I have to like the 80s music in a 50s era movie if I thought Project Hail Mary isnt movie of the year?
actually i think this movie was terrible outside of abel farerra, gwenyth paltrow, and the ping pong japan shit.
>>219491369>ping pong japanYeah that was an outstanding anime.Quiet literally the last good series made in that medium.
It wasn't bad but it came off like a more mainstream audience friendly version of uncut gems
>>219491314I'm saying if you thought Project Hail Mary was better, or even that it was good, you don't belong on this board.Did you also shit on Ad Astra?
>>219491508NTA but ad astra was god-awful.
>>219491547How old are you? Are you brown?
>>219491508I don't remember Ad Astra much beyond it portraying an interesting near-future environment and being a bit awkward towing the line between pitt being traumatised but also sincerely an emotionless chad
>>219491475and uncut gems was a more mainstream audience friendly version of good time
>>219491698The only person who would be impressed by apocalypse now in space would be a brown person such as yourself
How did this get such good reviews and 9 oscar nominations
>>219489255>Makes the same fucking movie three times in a row>it's ok when Scorsese does it
>>219494376When did scorcese do that?
>>219489255>The Smashing Machine mogged this. Its soundtrack mogged this too.lmao
>>219489255If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Eggers is the same way -- while I wouldn't say he's made the same film 4 times (about to make the 5th), he operates broadly in the same space, to the point that it would be interesting to see him challenge himself with something completely different. However the kind of films he makes is unprecedented in modern filmmaking and no one else is making them like he does, so I'm fine with him limiting himself this way.
>>219495326Ari Aster is the only one making different stuff each time did you saw Eddington?
>>219495477I did. Didn't love it, but it was certainly an impressive and original endeavour.
>>219489255Insufferable slop. This movie is 100% proof Chalamet is jewish as (((they))) would never allow a non-jew to play his role.
worst part was Tyler the Creatorfirst of all obvious black character shoehorned insecondly tyler fucking sucks i didn't enjoy a single line of his.they should have gotten some random guy from the street to play him it would have been better
I have genuinely no idea what to make of this film. Not because of the morally ambiguous protagonist or whatever. I just have no idea what this movie was trying to make me think or feel. Every single scene almost felt like a different movie entirely. And inside those scenes they would just bend reality to make it make some level of sense, or have some cohesion. After watching Good Time and Uncut Gems I felt like I'd just got off a rollercoaster that I was fully invested in. Every single little moment in those films felt consequential. In this almost nothing felt like it had real consequence. When this finished I was just like "...ok"
>>219489255>The Smashing Machinethe iron claw but with the rock instead of actors. Marty was better
>>219497824>the iron claw but with the rock instead of actorsand even that was just a more a more melodramatic The Wrestler
>>219489255At least now we know which one is the psychopath asshole brother and which one is the sensitive nice brother
>>219497906Except it was the opposite of The Wrestler. Since the movie clearly champions family over going down in a blaze of fleeting glory like Ram did but I'm sure it's the identical story because: wrestling.
