Quaritch seemed a pretty competent military commander in Avatar 1, and then a competent captain or whatever he was in avatar 2Why was Carmela Soprano brought in for Avatar 3 when she’s blindingly incompetent and never seems to have any decent ideas?I’d even agree that Quaritch just bringing the Ash clan into the base without prior authorisation was bad. But she clearly was never gonna approve some mission to get them as allies/partners. This seems incredibly retarded because every single successful major colonial project involved some level of divide and rule, where you favor some natives over others, trade with them, give them guns so they can dominate the non gun wielding ones. But she’s just like “they’re savages no way can they exist”. Very bizarre,After so many human casualties why exactly would she be against having some allied Na’vi help out in subduing the other Na’vi? They know the terrain, culture, who to target and how, and all the previous solo human stuff failed. Also in fairness to Quaritch, he succeded in arresting Jake and bringing him back for execution. It wasn’t his retarded idea to put Jake in a massive glass box visible to the whole planet all night for some reason. If she’d just put him inside the building Neytiri would never have gotten him out
Holy blogpostNigger it's a CGI movie, not the new testament Get over yourself
>>219495283they needed a new leader who would clash with Quaritch. And since Quaritch was going native they needed to make her extra anti-native. I hate what they did with Quaritch's character though, they made him a meme.>>219495365>how dare you discuss Television & Film on /tv/
>>219495283Agreed that Cameron really fucked up with that character. If it instead was another badass, lead from the front, type guy similar to human Quaritch, it could have been amazing. Blue Quaritch was also supposed to kill her in part 3 but they changed it to her just randomly dying on the ship because she's too stupid to get off. Reminder, she's not an admiral nor ship captain, she doesn't have to go down with a ship. And she's in charge of a planet's worth of humans so it makes even less sense to just die there. In part 2, she's introduced kickboxing in her mech suit. She seems like she'll get some interesting scenes, then nothing really comes up. Ok, it's Quaritch's movie anyway. Now part 3, surely she'll get some badass scenes now! Oh... nope. Just standing around the command deck and asking "what's going on?!" a lot.
>>219495365>TURN YOUR BRAIN OFF AND HAVE FUN™anyone posting similar to that should be forced to post a video of themselves saying it so I can see what type of disgusting acebrolic sludge-piles they all are.
>>219495471>I hate what they did with Quaritch's character though, they made him a meme.He was a meme from minute one he showed up on screen. What are you talking about? If anything he's developed a semblance of complexity with his "resurrection" as a recombinant.
>>219495712>Blue Quaritch was also supposed to kill her in part 3 but they changed it to her just randomly dying on the ship because she's too stupid to get offI'm majorly bummed out the last act of the movie wasn't Quaritch using his status as a hero and connections with the fire bitch to stage a coup. Hopefully it'll be covered in Avatar 4 but idk how he'll even survive getting thrown into a pit of fire.
Cameron kind of forgot about this character on the cutting room floor
>>219495801> how he'll even survive getting thrown into a pit of*sigh*, somehow...
This role was originally meant to go to bill Paxton if you look at the concept art. I imagine after bill died Cameron retooled the script and character to fit Edie Falco but lost interest. Hence the lame duck character and forgettable death
>>219495471>I hate what they did with Quaritch's character though, they made him a meme. You’re in the minority on this one, anon. Quarritch and Varang were by far the highlight of Fire and Ash.
>>219495769that's sillythey should simply be shot in the head
At what point will earth just eat its losses and move on?It doesnt look like extrating resources from pandora is not profitable.we dont hear about unobtanium anymore instead its whale goop. they lost trillions of dollars in stuff trying to go after a couple billion dollars of whale goop
>>219496361Earth is basically dying, has no resources and is massively overpopulated, it can’t afford to give up. Beyond just the unobtainium, which is crucial to operating the mega trains that make the earth economy even exist at this point >they show just how valuable some Pandora’s whale ambergris is, billions of dollars worth per whale>the prospect of being able to make humans breathe the Pandora’s atmosphere means actual settlements outside of vacuum sealed ones are now possibleYes, even with the money lost, they’ve still made way more than they would have. Most colonial projects actually lost more money than they gained, this one at least is profitable and it’s not a simple matter of prestige where they can cut their losses and move on, there is no other earth or Pandora for humanity to try it on, this is it
>>219496424You think the navi will go to earth?
>>219495985>you are skypeople from Earth!>No Sir! I'm from Kentucky!
>>219496538Yes, Neytiri will go there and likely Kiri too. They need to create an Eywa in Earth to bring it back to life and protect it
I don't know what was the point of bringing back Selfridge. They turned him into a buffoon. In the first movie, he's just kinda of aloof but still smart and has empathy for the natives. Just wants to get the mining job done and ethically. In this movie he's a joke and meaningless. Why did they bring back Scorsby? He did the exact same thing. Just went right back to hunting whales. Didn't change a single thing even. And acts surprised when they attacked. Honestly, I hate to say it, but it comes off like deleted scenes filmed for the second movie. Like, they filmed a scene of Scoresby looking confused and telling the General that Tulkun are usually not aggressive, then cut it and needed more footage so put it into Avatar 3. They act like they didn't get completely wrecked just days ago by the Tulkun and take zero precautions against it this time. The Tulkun shouldn't have been able to get anywhere near the main ships and the sonar should have been turned up to maximum to deafen them. Instead the bring the fleet to a complete stop, just sit there, and stare confused when giant Tulkun are circling underneath them?!
>>219496361The immortality whale goop doesnt even make sense. The unobtainium was plausible, but humanity already has functional immortality with clone bodies and mind transfers.
>>219501230No, it doesn't. You've been told this many times already.
>>219495283That's what they wanted to show, Quaritch can be useful bu you still need a human to follow the orders
Just marathoned 2 and 3, gotta say the story is absolute dogshit, not even worth discussing past mentioning how based Pyakun is. Crazy girl in 3 is cute but Neytiri is still best feral wife.
As a native american i found all of these advantages completely offensive. In hindsight I see the problem that every colonized people have ever experienced since the english conquest of ireland. You can protect your sovereignty or you can protect your culture you can't protect both at the same time. Look at japan as the perfect example, first , asian country to industrialize , so they were never colonized. If you're being colonized your culture is obvious not inferior but not practical enough for the current zeitgeist. This shit pissed me off because I wrote an essay in school about it and the teacher wasn't smart enough to understand it so I only got a flat B.
>>219495365I enjoyed the movie and I enjoy criticism of the movie and discussion of its realism of the plot against historical examples. That's why I browse a board dedicated to discussion of Television and Film.
>>219501230The value of pandoran resources is based upon the cost of doing the same thing with earth’s technology, with whale juice getting an extra bump due to there being zero question on whether or not a person who extends their life with whale juice is the same as their digital copy.

>>219499574I would like to see an edit that throws Avatar 3 scenes back into Avatar 2 where they actually make sense.
>>219508052Post essay, anon
>>219508052You got a B because you’re wrong about Japan. The nukes and McArthur basically rewrote their culture from proud empire to US vassal.

>>219495283why does she need the robot to carry her mug?it doesn't even have an idle setting, she still needs to keep her arm up lmaoso retarded
>>219510211Maintaining the mentality that the exoskeleton is an extension of herself, illustrating how this obviously expensive piece of hardware is mainly being used to deliver coffee to face, commentary on how humanity is willing to let such expensive technology be used for something so trivial but they refuse to spend any money to solve their own problems because that wouldn’t generate a return on investment, I could go on forever.
>>219507836Neyney is not feral
>>219512407She mogs Varang soo hard
>>219510090https://archive.4plebs.org/tv/thread/178066173/#178070227I remember someone said it 4 years ago
>>219512407Neytiri is pretty damn feral. She was barely controllable in 2 with her vicious rage. In 3, she was inches from killing Ronal and eating her baby. Then killed Spider and sticking his head on a spike.
>They imprison Jake in the clear glass cell in his orange jumpsuit>Everyone claps, job well done>Scotty: Hey guys, let's just get it over with and kill him right now>Dr. Evil: how about no? We'll do it in the morning>Scotty: you know he's going to escape, right? I have a gun in my room right now. I'll go get it>Dr. Evil: Scotty, you just don't get it... *disappointed look*
>>219495283I don't care if they call me crazy or not, but the Avatar movies, in my opinion, are overrated. The first one was special precisely because it was the first. The concept wasn't really original, but at least it had good CGI. To me, it seemed somewhat boring but not enough to consider it bad. Meanwhile, the subsequent sequels were too long and in the end, I just found them boring. I don't think they deserve to make as much money as the media says. Although the CGI is still good.
