>"this kids' film is bad because... it has a bad plot!!"
>"Yeah, but the kids still enjoyed it, though? If they enjoyed it, it can't be bad"
>REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!
Works every time, when anti-intellectual nerds start complaining about kids' shows.

>The kid's film is good because...it made money!
>"Yeah, but it is still bad."

I bet this comes up for you a lot due to the fact that you are a 30 something year old childless man who spends his days watching children’s shows
>>
the correct answer is "why are you watching kids' films?"
>>
what was the context for that 'wonka' thing again
>>
>>219495791
be honest then, how many times exactly has your REEEEE!!! strategy worked?
>>
For kid movies, the correct concern it's not about the plot, it's about the message

Scammers in England capitalizing on the Timothy Chalamey Wonka flick used ChatGPT to make a plot for their shitty "walkthrough experience" pop-up shop. Includes weird characters like the Mirror Monster, and also had a bitchy goth chick only there for a paycheck in oompa loompa makeup (erotic).

>"Yeah, but the kids still enjoyed it, though? If they enjoyed it, it can't be bad"
This supposition forgets that children have shit-tier, unquestioning taste due to a general lack of exposure as well as the fact that their brains are LITERALLY still not done developing. So children liking something is not NECESSARILY an indicator of quality, i.e. that something was "good".
Shit argument, OP.

>children have shit-tier, unquestioning taste
So do most adults
In general if you form your opinion out of the opinions of others you are a follower, a sheep, cattle

NGL I can see where the Mario fans are coming from. I have been in your shoes.
I too mindlessly lap up mediocre kids movies solely because they are based on a thing I liked when I myself was a kid.
Garfield, Kung Fu Panda 4, Angry Birds, Ninjago, and Wreck It Ralph 2 just to name a few.
But the thing is I feel like families have way better options for animated movies out there. Movies with an actual plot, an engaging story, an experience that isn't just a flashy action set piece every 5 seconds, characters with meaningful character development, and a cute take away message for the kids to learn from the overall experience. Inside Out, Zootopia, Lilo and Stitch, Fantastic Mr Fox, Coraline, mostly every Ghibli movie ever made, Shrek, Puss in Boots The Last wish just to name a few.
Hell even the examples I listed earlier are infinitely better movies solely because they have a basic story structure.
All in all if I ever get kids of my own, Mario Galaxy the movie is going to be the last thing I would let my kids watch.

>If they enjoyed it,
they being dumb kids who would be equally entertained by Fortnite Chun Li hitting the griddy for an hour and a half
>it can't be bad
It can and it is

Why are adults watching and reviewing children's entertainment? It's absurd.

Setting up a one-time attraction for like 40 families in glasgow to show up is not a business model that exists, wtf was he thinking
What you WOULD do is put a few hundred thousand into making an elaborate set that can be torn down and set up again in different venues across the country and make your money back after touring for a few years
If it's a one time thing that's only gonna be set up once in one neighborhood then of course the props are gonna have to be pvc pipes spray painted yellow and a fake topiary from Michael's arts and crafts lol it's just like why would you do that though that's not a business model

Who the fuck else is going to review them? Kids? They can't even buy their own movie tickets.
>>
>>219501098
is mario movie good seeing it tonight
>>
>>219497786
not like you can get kids to do it
movies obviously do significant product testing on kids because they have a large financial stake in their success, but for journalism it's going to be a hard sell to take a massive sample of kids for every movie that comes out to put together a review. so you just have failed artists being sent out to review mario and wanting to kill themselves for being reduced to that.

You do realize that children's toys and books are designed to teach motor and critical skills, right? A thing can be both enjoyable and psychologically beneficial, instead of being no more than the visual equivalent of LSD.

Young zoomers and gen a don’t even consume plot-based media. It’s not a requirement for their enjoyment. If they had stopped the story and had Peach do a grwm skincare routine, they would have been equally engaged. If they had Fox McCloud walk around for 5 minutes standing next to other characters to “mog” them, zoomies and alphies would piss and shit themselves laughing and howling. This is how people who enjoyed the gritty realism of 70s films felt when 80s action-slop took over (and is praised as a golden age of kino today).

The Unknown was a chick actually

Sorry but only plebs care about plot. There are plenty of films for adults that have no coherent story or themes but are pure visual spectacles, and those films can receive critical acclaim and be entertaining and worthwhile, so why shouldn’t kids be allowed some visual spectacle as well?
The entire criticism is dishonest anyway because if they had raceswapped a main character or had some shoehorned message about immigrants or trannies, critics would be praising it no matter what the literal plot was. They’re literally just mad that a successful children’s film isn’t actively trying to brainwash white kids to hate themselves.

Children's movies used to be good. This isnt nostalgia either. It would be a film that adults could enjoy also.

They do test readings and test screenings for kids. Harry potter got published because the reviewers kids liked it even though he didnt care for it.

Kids love Pokemon - a fictional world where cockfighting is legal and all-ages. They still need to be taught right from wrong
>>
>>219497786
It actually is even more important to review kids films than regular films. Adults should hopefully know their kids and know what level of engagement a movie needs to hit for them to enjoy it. The mario movie also does avoid excessive bathroom humor, so that's good to know. It features 0 human on human violence. There's a lot worth knowing.
