So uh, when does she actually do anything smart which isn't just "haha I knew you would that!"

>Smartness as a superpower is the ability to anticipate people’s actions with literally omniscient accuracy
I hate this trope. It doesnt even make sense.
>>

There's an old copypasta about how dumb people can't write smart characters, because to a retard, being smart is akin to being a magical wizard
>>
>>219496515
>a magical wizard
Thats reads wrong. I suggest
>because to a retard, being smart is akin to being a fortuneteller

No way this isn't a parody right? Smartest character is a black woman KEK
>>
>>219498291
it's intentional and unironic
>>
>>219496291
Never. She's dumber than the average /tv/tard in the current season.
>>
>>219496291
It's like BigBungeee says; smart just means "she read the script."

Truly intelligent writers create ultra-smart characters that can be outmanuvered or put in disadvantageous situations, face situations they couldn't predict, but still come out on top by playing their hand well or reacting fast enough with the right tools. This stupid "I predicted everything you would say or do" trope is very hard to do convincingly. Very few characters of this type are well written.

Sister Sage or Ozymandias?
>>
>>219496291
She didn't predict her boyfriend godolkin would get killed by the black girl
She's a retard
>>
>>219499971
>Ozymandias
Still predicted wrong on ridding himself of Dr Manhattan
Sure he dealt it with quick enough afterwards, but he was wrong on that part at least.
And he also doubts himself at the end of the comics at least

Fortune tellers are smart. They are getting people to live out some way that is beneficial and or enjoyable to them.

Why are there two threads about an obscure darkie from a pozzed aids show at the same time right now

To be fair Manhattan coming back because he couldn't believe the plot twist of who Silk Spectre fucked was stupid.
>>
>>219499971
Phastos is smarter.

>To be fair Manhattan coming back because he couldn't believe the plot twist of who Silk Spectre fucked was stupid.
Oh true, but I referred to Ozy destroying Dr. Manhattan for a good five minutes

I don't really read comics but I do like the Watchmen movie. Would it be worth going through the graphic novel or would I be filtered.

a black woman is speaking. listen and learn.
>>
>>219496515

The only way you can write a smart character is to condense time.

Have the character do something within a few seconds to a day that it would take you the writer a couple months to work on.
A guy coming up with a good thesis over the summer isn't impressive, but the character regurgitating one on the fly would be.

>t. Dumb person
>>
>>219496487
I’m a smart person and I can’t interact with people because I know their entire half of the conversation before it leaves their mouths.
I know what you’ll say to this too
>>
>Smartest person in the world
>still choses to be/live as black
yeah, this show is dumb and unrealistic
at least Michael Jackson tried to change
>>
>>219496291
In fairness, that's kind of the point of her character. Smartest person in the world, but also a lazy shitty person, so their intellect is mostly wasted.
>>
>>219507451
Its the i WOULD do that but im too lazy and hateful too thingbof midwits who dont want to try for revealing they actually are stupid.

To be honest, bei g smarter then others gives you a small ego that that is inflamed by people treating you different.
Then one day you realize that you aren't that smart and never learned to learn struggle or been able to interact with other people. Leading to self jarred and loneliness.

There is a thread on /lit/ about being well read but not a genius. Its very insightful to the problem many of us have.
>>
>>219496515
Writing smart character is like writing a good detective.
You need to take whole big picture into the account and inject said character in such way that it doesn't seem like an asspull.
Which most writers, of course, fucking can't.
>>
>>219506398
>I know their entire half of the conversation before it leaves their mouths.
You are no older than 20.
The closer I get to being old, the more I understand that people are so retarded, you might expect the dumbest fucking take and half of the time, you might still be taken by surprise by the sheer stupidity escaping other person's mouth.
