The thing is tgat the show got canned when it was building steam and setting up to something. The hype is more about what the show could have been rather than wha it actually was. Still worth a watch even if you end up not liking it. Watch the show first and if you're curious the film Serenity afterwards which is kinda a retelling of what the original plot was intended and sorta closes things up.
