Even if you ignore all the stuff that would have to be cut or recontextualized, the book having no real structure and being very "shit happens, is forgotten and same shit happens again" doesn't lend itself very well to film.
I know what the mare imbrium is because of this book and I will never forget.

You could make it into a movie but not a mass/very popular or big budget one. Most of the movie wouldn't be interesting and would be unpleasant to look at. The themes would be considered dangerous or impenetrable to most people. It isn't worth the trouble, but it easily could be done.

I never saw what anyone liked about this book, it just seems like nihilism for the sake of it and the characters act retarded. Like, the judge tricks the town people into lynching a priest on false charges and when he admits it they all laugh about it, like it's some kind of cartoon. If the world was really such a cruel and savage place, why didn't they immediately murder the judge after he just blatantly admitted to manipulating them for no reason at all?
