Sacred cow from the early days of cinema essentially. Novel for its time and inspired a great number of film directors, writers and others in relevant roles in film production, but really not a narrative hit of cinema. It deserves its place in the annals of film history but it's not there because it's a compelling epic.

It basically rewrote the rules on filmmaking because Orson Welles was too arrogant and ignorant to know how to make a film "properly". It's essentially a vanity project but its clearly an important film and that's why critics love it, it wasn't very liked when it came out though
