What was with the hair in Harry Potter 4?

Didn't the films have a bunch of different directors so a bunch of different creative visions as well?

The director told all the kids to not cut their hair in the months leading up to filming, he wanted everyone with long hair. So ask Mike Newell.

Films just had stuff like that back then.

Ron was so hilarious in these movies

Harry is described as having long hair all the time in the books, in fact, it was weird that he had shorter hair in OOTP since that goes against the book's description of him

The franchise became embarrassed of itself and turned from warm color graded spiritual '90s fantasy children's entertainment into YA genre fare outfitted by Old Navy that was becoming all the rage at the time, desperately trying to seem cool to the kids that were part of that Harry Potter mania in 2001 but had since grown up into fussy self-conscious teens. The box office was in a slump by Prisoner of Azkaban in 2004, so they were clearly trying to pull out and connect with trends.

Long hair was indeed fashionable when I was in high school watching these but isn't it always? I know about the broccoli thing but there's always going to be guys with shorter haircuts. The long hair must still exist.

I know, in the books, Harry's hair is supposed to be messy and stuck up at odd angles. Maybe that's what they were going for. But it ended up looking like some weird mane
>>
>>219523347
When you're 14-15 your mom or dad usually stops taking you to the barber and you're not grown up enough to get your hair cut yourself. That's my theory. I had long hair from 4th grade until I was 28, but at least half the guys in my school had long hair in 8th and 9th grade.
>>
>>219523347
Literally the style at the time, teenage girls loved this shit and they wanted to appeal to them

I feel like long hair was more popular back in the day when boomer barbers would usually fuck up whatever shorter haircut you got and growing it out was kind of a set it and forget it solution no matter how it was originally cut. That was a big motivating factor was not wanting to get stuck looking like a dork elementary schooler for a few months yet again. Shorter more deliberate cuts have gotten way more popular lately with the wide availability of stylist content creators to demonstrate what you want and the ease of finding a local stylist who knows what they're doing with some sort of reference on your phone. Most guys I can think of with longer hair are usually older like MoistCr1TiKaL or Jamie Campbell Bower, only occasionally on the younger side like Percy Hynes White. There's actually been a huge resurgence of '80s and '90s style hair with gen alpha after the zoomer broccoli hair and fades became passe.

This is correct, and to add, the goal wasn't for them to all have long hair. It was to give them options when styling but somebody missed a memo or something and they started filming without anyone getting a cut. That's really what happened.
As a young metal head I was psyched to see the guys grow it out.,

Medium to long hair on guys was the style in the 2000s. We didn’t style it just let it grow out and get it trimmed every other month. It was especially popular with skateboarders and music people. Then that hideous undercut/hitler youth took over in like 2011 and it’s taking forever to go away. Can’t wait for 2000s throwback when guys finally grow out the sides of their hair again

I kinda wish the movies didn't skate over how impoverished and abused Harry was. He already suffers from being too perfect as it is. The books do a better job of selling him as disheveled and unhealthy looking (obviously still attractive). And all his clothes being unfashionable worn in and too big for him. I think the first movie did that but after that they just made them all dress like actual private boarding school kids. And outside of school he dresses no different from any other kid his age.
And the new series isn't going in that direction either. Kind of lame

Feels like it's always been a pretty standard thing when kids age through a series or films to have a long-hair/shaggy phase on the boys.
Should have kept Ron's hair long up to the 7th movie and had him cut it before Bill's wedding or something thematic. I guess that's tough if you need to do pick-ups from early in the movie though.

Some aspects are intuitive:

But then fucking "Halfblood" refers to literally everyone else, even when 50/50% doesn't make sense outside of Pureblood + Muggle, or Magical near-human (Giant, Goblin, Elf) + (Magical) human:
