What did you oldfriends think the sequel was going to be like before The Lost World?
Were you disappointed?
>>
>>219524931
I was nine years old when the first JP came out and 13 for TLW. Even back then I knew it was a lesser Spielberg effort.
>>
>>219524931
i was young af when it came out so didn't really have any expectations but
>thought it would be cool dinosaur movie
>had more dinosaurs and action than the first one
I liked it a lot as a kid
the opening with the raptors eating the guy and the t-rex scene with the RV stuck with me
as an adult I'm not so crazy about it.
>>
>>219524931
I'm mad as fuck they didn't do more with all those cool cars.
Two whole toylines filled with dino vs car action and they practically throw them all away after the capture scene.
>>
>>219524931
I was too young to know that Jurassic Park 1 existed and I assumed for a long time that Lost World was the first movie.
>>
Dragon Park
>>
>>219525348
Me but I saw 3 before I ever saw 2 for some reason so I thought there was only 1 and 3, despite the fact that JPIII LITERALLY SAID 3 IN THE FUCKING TITLE.
Fuck, I was retarded.
>>
>>219525412
I bet a lot of kids saw Temple of Doom before Raiders back in the day due to the Indie movies not having numerical titles.

Hey, you got your wish 32 years later.
>>
I wasn't a jaded demoralized faggot back then, so I just enjoyed the cool dinosaur movies
>>
>>219525683
Calling bullshit on this post. Unless you were very young, kids can still perceive the difference in quality when it comes to bad sequels.
>>
>>219524931
Read the sequel. Gave up after the first few chapters because the premise seemed like it was going to go off the rails (secret island with genetic rejects).

I think Spielberg agreed with me because #2 was mostly just generic dinosaur action and didn’t really have a captivating overarching plot.
>>
>>219525789
Spielberg and Universal are the ones who pressured Crichton into writing a lazy sequel in the first place.
>>
>>219524931
I was 13 when Jurassic Park was released. I was 17 when the sequel came out.
I remember having high expectations, to see what they would come up with.
What we got disappointed me for sure. I like some parts of it, but it's mostly flim-flam. I think I've only ever watched it twice and really just the t-rex scenes.
>>
>>219525951
Lost World is a bad movie with some incredibly well directed setpieces. The raptors in the tall grass and the dual T-Rex attack on the mobile command unit trailers are awesome scenes.
>>
>>219526062
Those are the exact best scenes.
The movie goes so far off the rails once they get to America.
A T-Rex roaming a major city would be a massive event, but this it feels like a surreal dream. It's so weird.
>>
>>219524931
KINOOOOOOOO
>>
>>219526192
I don't like how much bullshit it took to let the T. rex get loose.
SURELY they could've come up with something better than
>the boat le CRASHES because the crew... ATE THEMSELVES!
>>
>>219526295
Yeah, Steven painted himself into a corner with that one. The only other way it works is if he does a King Kong type thing where he's too big for the boat and gets loose. At least have it happen in the transport from the ship to the final containment stop.
>>
>>219524931
The Lost World is a great film until it gets to San Diego. If you cut that off and slap an end while they're still on Isla Nublar, it'd be arguably better than the first one.
>>
>>219524931
It was disappointing and still cool.
>>
>>219526515
You'd have to change a lot more than just that.
You'd also have to give Nick and Sarah their comeuppance for getting everyone (especially Eddie) killed due to their retardation.
>>
as a kid the pole swinging shit made me realize it was shit

>>219526515
Arguably it's trash, San Diego or not.
See >>219526742 as the most glaring example.
>>
>>219526295
The implication was that the T-Rex broke out and the crew died trying to contain it. Which is why the one guy died with his finger on the hatch button.
It's stupid but there it is. Except for the captain on the bridge, I dunno what was his deal. Eaten through the window maybe? I don't fuckin know.

Originally it was going to be that a pack of raptors escaped on the ship, but they scrapped that because a t rex in San Diego is cooler visually.
>>
>>219526616
If I could remake it, I wouldn't have killed Eddie in the first place. In fact, I'd have killed Sarah just to fuck with Malcolm and his wild oat seeding.
>>219526793
homie is fine with kids bumbling around in the kitchen doing fuck all in the first one but scoffs at a character set up as a high school gymnast swinging into a raptor
>>
>>219526793
>>219526903
oh yeah, and fuckin' Lex knowing computers and hacking shit. At least the gymnast shit is believable
>>
>>219525553
>I bet a lot of kids saw Temple of Doom before Raiders

that was me
>>
>>219526616
Nick sucked shit for that. Sarah was just photographing dinosaurs and would've been fine when InGen showed up if Nick hadn't gotten everyone killed.
>>
>>219527737
Sarah, the supposed wildlife expert/paleontologist, also led the rexes right to everyone by keeping her jacket with the rex blood on it even AFTER it was pointed out to her.
>>
>>219526954
Lex was like 12. That old enough to know how a computer works. It's not an age to be heavy enough to launch a 170lb deinonychus through a window.
>>
>>219527830
Ah fair. I kinda forgot about that bit. At least that's a stupid mistake and not willfully releasing 4 ton murder mutants on the island.
>>
>>219527850
No girls like Lex existed in 1993.
>>
Jurassic Park 1 left no story to tell
everything was wrapped up definitively
they had to make up a bunch of bullshit to explain why they'd ever go back
nothing in any of the JP sequels makes any sense if you watch the original JP
>>
>>219525899
I've heard the book is pretty decent, but never got round to reading it.
>>
>>219527909
They were rare, but it's not out of the realm of believability.
>>219524931
I liked the video game.
I mean it's janky and absurd, but I love this ambitious failure.
>>
>>219527933
To me, its the only jp movie
>>
>>219528527
I hate how this mentality is so prevalent among the creatives.
It's not that TLW and JPIII are masterpieces or anything, but they all act like it's just the first movie and World onwards that exists and it pisses me off.
>>
>>219525185
Pretty much this. If there were ever a franchise that didn't need to happen it was JP.
>>
>>219528025
i lost my boxed copy of trespesser somewhere. it was shit and ran like shit but was pretty interesting
>>
>>219526879
I'm speaking from memory, but I think the boat footage was shot when they were planning on raptors, and they didn't bother to reshoot after changing it to a T-Rex. It's why there are parts that don't make sense like the captain.
>>
The black girl was super annoying.
I thought the time on the island was cool, when I saw all the buggies and motorcycles with all those cool gadgets I immediately thought about the toy possibilities. The survivors running through high grass and the raptors snatching them was kino. Also that scene with both T-Rexes, the scientific bus and the guy getting eaten.
Conversely, I didn't like the T-Rex in te city, it felt like the ending dragged a bit and it felt like a chore to sit through.
>>
who did jeff goldblum fuck anyways
>>
>>219529304
a black woman, clearly. And presumably Sarah Harding on an entirely separate occasion
>>
>>219528845
Oh noo.
>>
>>219530301
What did he mean by this?
>>
Expectation: More action, more blood than the first, and hopefully without the annoying kids

Reality: Didn't see it because all of my friends said it sucked
>>
>>219524931
I was hoping Alan Grant would come back.
>>
>>219531400
I'm pretty sure the plot was originally convinced for him. I have no evidence of that, but Ellie going back would make sense in place of Sarah (who just so happens to be a paleontologist AND dating someone who was on isla nublar), the sat phones don't work for Malcolm (it's established in the first movie that technology doesn't play nice with grant). The only thing that doesn't fit is the kid, or at least the kids age.
>>
I really had no idea. I was 5-6, I had taken one of those tiny one serving cereal boxes and had made a little land speeder with it for some of my star wars toys. I was playing on the carpet in my mom and dads bedroom watching something on tv when my dad came home and decided that we needed to go see a movie, and that was the one he chose. He got completely shitfaced during the movie on a white russian he got at a bar next door, it was in one of those gigantic 64oz cups. He thought Jeff Goldblum was funny, but we both agreed it was worse than the first movie by a fairly large margin. He got another white russian as we left and drove his truck into a ditch on the way home, many such cases.
>>
>>219529042
I just bought a boxes copy recently because I only ever own a jewel case...
They had high expectations for that game and only sold 50k copies. Somewhere out there there's palletes of Trespasser copies l collecting dust.

>>
>>219525789
>I didnt read the book because I presumed it did secret island with genetic rejects
>Spielberg agreed with me
The book didnt do that, but was actually more retarded than the movie, even with all the stupid stuff. By the time velociraptors were rolling a cage with a black boy trapped in it across the island I was largely checked out
>>
>>219526903
I can buy 2 kids playing a tension-packed game of hide and seek or die against 2 raptors in a kitchen full of obstacles places to hide.
I cannot buy a 12 year old girl making a raptor - established to be the most intelligent dinosaur in the franchise - stop dead in its tracks by addressing it loudly, just so it can stand still and wait for said 12 year old girl to do a couple of tricks and KICK IT FLYING OUT OF A WINDOW like it's fucking Looney Tunes.
They're not the same.
>>
>>219525185
raptors ate a guy in the opening? I just remember the little girl and the compys
>>
>>219526954
she didn't hack anything, she just knew how to browse a file system but the little gymnast girl being able to knock a full grown raptor OFF its feet and through a window is just stupid
>>
>>219526903
>>219526954
Kids have always been the worst part of JP franchise. If they cant be killed then they should have not been included
