"Every High School Girl In Town Is Just Casually Working In A Brothel Servicing Every Old Man In Town" the TV show. FCC approved.

Audrey DIDN'T get fucked by her dad. Amazing restraint for the sake of family friendliness. You could show your grandmother this show.

No. Most people who signed that petition were told it's against national governments being able to arrest dissident film makers at foreign film festivals. For the most part, they weren't told about the Polanski angle.

Allegedly.

Nope. That brothel was high-class and only welcomed the elites.
>>
>>219530088
Audrey was the dreamer, Laura was her dream egregore of her ideal life but the childhood rape and BOB and Evil still seeped in. There are so many ways to interpret this show, and each one is unrestrained kinography.

That's a crazy amount of people for such a small town

I read it was supposed to be 5,201 but ABC wanted a larger number because it would be too quaint or some equally dumb reason.
>>
>>219531775
It's either a typo in universe, or one of those things were technically, the territory of Twin Peaks goes way beyond the town itself.

There's no way in hell the Twin Peaks we see has more than 10,000 people.
>>
>>219527974
In my hometown, it wasn't a brothel, they were just being pimped out to sugar daddies or else pimping themselves out, and a lot of it was organized through the church.

Name your favourite character. For me, it's Ben Horne.

Apart from Cooper himself?

Always liked Leland a lot. Ray Wise was absolutely killing it, particularly in the movie. It's a shame they couldn't find an excuse to give him a bigger role in Season 3.

And Albert, of course. Having him play the straight man to all the weird shit and all the weird people around him is some of my favourite comic relief in all three seasons.

If you're familiar with Lynch's other work, you should be aware that when he calls something a dream, it generally is the more "substantive" part of the narrative, i.e. not a dream in the literal sense. It never is.
And, sure, there's nothing wrong with the "just a dream kek, nothing means anything" interpretation in the sense that anything you think about a book or a film or even a piece of music is legitimate for you to think. But that doesn't mean it's not extremely shallow and ignorant of the bigger picture.
>>
>>219538593
I don't like the "its all a dream" angle either but its completely valid and has some strong evidence. Lynch would appreciate all of the theories, readings and interpretations of Twin Peaks.

in american grade school, if teachers "care" about helping you write creatively, they demonize your work if it ends with "then he woke up and it was all a dream, the end."

this is frequently the first time you, the young creative, are introduced to the term "cop out". it's a cop out, the instructor drills into you: it's a cheat, it's the easy way out of a tight corner, it's actually the opposite of creative. the reader was hoping for so much more from your story. it started well and then you just fucked it. what a disappointment you are. never do that again.

as a result, the would-be creatives who piss and shit their pants all day and night on /tv/ are exactly those who slavishly amplify their teachers' critiques — that all works incorporating the dream mechanic are worthless. these are not the anons' own naturally-occuring opinions. they've all been incepted, early in life, by academic morons and will remain lost until they find their own way back.

source: i am a true disappointment in every sense of the word and a disgrace to our lord

>>
>>219545313
You're not particularly bright, are you?
Going from "avoid copout endings" to "don't use dream mechanics" is something only a complete retard with no understanding for ... anything, really ... would do.
And you going the other way around and trying to invalidate any criticism of such copout endings (which is not something Lynch ever did) just paints you as an even worse retard.

It's not the "real world" he wakes up in, it's a pocket dimension where The Fireman has sent Dale and Laura to corner Judy and dispense with her once and for all. That's why Cooper eats at Judy's cafe, why Carrie Page has the white horse on her mantle at her house, and why the Tremonds/Chalfonts were present at the Palmer household in the last moments. The Fireman lays out this plan to Cooper in the first moments of the first episode, Laura is in on it.

Twin Peaks as a whole. Every single episode, even those in the middle of season 2. That's the big picture you're supposed to look at.
Not just one single line in the penultimate episode that can be twisted into supporting one simple but limited interpretation.

A dream ending is seen as bad not because I had some overbearing teacher who decided to overwrite my thinking at a young age, artistically grooming me or some nonsense, but because it diminishes the “tangibility” of the plot. The dream thing is usually used in shows or cartoons where more fantastical elements would only work for one episode without destroying the setting or fucking the continuity.

But a dream ending used seriously 9/10 times just diminishes the setting, unless dreams are presented as something “real”.

Yes, all fiction is “false” (unless you ask some folks on /x/, but I digress) but the relative grounding of stories is what makes them compelling. They have to work within their own set of rules.

There is media that works with dreams as a mechanic and work just fine. Inception, Lost, and yes, Twin Peaks.

But if you think you’re clever for saying “dream stuff is a copout is actually extremely ignorant” you’re just needlessly defending 1) yes, lazy writing 2) uncreating and unintelligent uses of dreams as a mechanic, setting, or esoteric concept within fictional works

tl;dr there’s nothing wrong with dreams but yes using “it was all a dream” is a disappointing storytelling path

I haven’t finished The Return. Me and my girl watched twin peaks years ago and enjoyed its camp and creepy elements, but The Return is such a tonal shift that it legitimately made us uncomfortable. Which makes it good horror, but you have to be in the mood for good horror. That said, possessed Cooper talking dirty was a fucking hilarious scene we still quote.
>>
>>219556921
>Which makes it good horror
It's not really horror. It's just that life went on for 25 years.

I don’t mean because of IRL events, I mean the cinematography and mood of Returns are anxiety inducing, and that’s to say nothing about the gore and general Lynch strangeness

>>219557532
>I mean the cinematography and mood of Returns are anxiety inducing
Yeah. Me too. That's the 2010s vs the 1990s. Cinematography has changed, fundamentally. Like everything else did.
>>
>>219557603
Well yeah, sure, like in the medium at large. But Lynch was always like that, anyway. Wasn’t returns on HBO or something? Probably a lot of stuff he wanted to do that he couldn’t on mainstream network television, especially so in the 90’s.
>>
>>219557349
link to the review? were they words in paragraph form or some zoomerfag's talky talk on an explainer video

>>219557712
>But Lynch was always like that, anyway.
Like what? The Return? Not quite. Compare any of his early works with Inland Empire. Stark contrast, not just because the latter was made with a cheap ditial camera.
Fire Walk with Me, which you've probably seen before starting The Return, does some pretty fucked up shit. But it has an overall brighter look. Of course, Fire Walk with Me is also the only cinematic part of Twin Peaks, and the only one that does not emulate the contemporary TV style in any way.
