Blue Jasmine.
Although it's not about alcoholics the media portrayal of alcoholics is usually fatalistic or romantic. But having been around alcoholics in real life I know that they are weasally untrustworthy scumbags and viscerally repulsive. Maybe just imagine every time tony soprano has a cuban sandwich hes drinking shitty ukrainian liquor.

Smile 2 is the best addiction movie ever imo as a 15 year alky with 6 months sober.

But not once was a Cuban sandwich consumed on that show by any character. His go-to sandwich was Satriale's capicola, provolone, and vinegar peppers.

>disease
I’m not saying addiction isn’t a struggle. It is and I know personally. I just don’t prescribe to the AA disease model. I was in AA for seven years and was sober throughout. I’ve been out seven years and still sober.

It’s a cult but what’s interesting is that it’s made me reframe my view of cults. It’s a cult because they tell you the outside world doesn't understand you (which they’re correct about), you can’t live without them, and in my experience will shun you to varying degrees when you leave. In my experience, you will not be able to maintain any relationships you had with any members once you leave. Any interactions you have with them moving forward will be centered around them attempting to bring you back in.

On the other hand, it gave me the support I needed to stop drinking. I reached a point where I was getting nothing out of the meetings and was stalled in my spiritual growth by staying. That was just my experience though. I met plenty of people who I firmly believe were better off staying in. I also met people who seemed to be held back by it too. I have family members who are still in AA/AL Anon after decades and it seems to work well for them.

I would highly recommend anyone who wants to stop but can’t, go check out a meeting. Be careful who you trust because there are dangerous people who aren’t going for good reasons. They have a saying, “you gotta know who’s who in the zoo”. That’s true but most people in there are very good people. If you like someone, ask them to sponsor you and earnestly work the steps. It may change your life.

Just don’t believe them when they tell you everyone who leaves goes back to their old ways. They wouldn’t know. The last thing people like me are doing is going back to AA meetings to tell people how they’re making it without it.

A study showed that 2 psilocybin trips in conjunction with like 5-6 therapy sessions caused 83% of the patients to drastically reduce their drinking and 48% to quit entirely. By far the most effective treatment for alcoholism.

Similar percentages for the treatment of severe depression and PTSD. Not meme studies with dubious results, but studies done by some of the best hospitals and medical schools in the world.

why is alcoholism even a thing? Can't you like just stop drinking to failure? Can't you just drink until the buzz hits?

I like beer but I don't drink every fucking day, just one day of the week, be it saturday or sunday. Maybe I will drink on both if there are social events, but it seems stupid to do it until you want to puke.

>>
>>219543016
I haven't taken a deep dive into the mdma studies but I've heard some promising things, although it doesn't appear to be anywhere close to as effective as psilocybin.

I just know that basically any hospital or medical school that runs a psilocybin trial ends up with about 80% of the patients being cured of like 10 different mental health disorders, including addiction to substances like nicotine and alcohol

>>
>>219543066
Because you drink to chase a specific state of mind.
Your tolerance grows and so does your need to be in that state for longer, so you drink more and more often.
Eventually it gets to a point where it harms your body but it becomes secondary to your addiction
>>
>>219543172
Johns Hopkins ran a study on severe depression on cancer patients who had been told they were going to die. The effects lasted at least 12 months, but I don't think they went further than that because the test subjects died.

Psilocybin goes after the underlying causes of the ptsd/depression/addiction. SSRIs and benzos hides away the bad feelings, while the psilocybin forces you to confront whatever is making you depressed and come to terms with it. So the effects should be long-lasting. And if they turn out to only be effective for 12-24 months, then taking 2 pills a year to keep your PTSD/depression at bay sure as shit beats gobbling pills every day that numbs your emotions
>>
>>219541089

>>219543263
shrooms are baste and shouldn't be illegal. this is one thing colorado got right
>>
>>219543263
I dont believe this study. People freak the fuck out on shrooms for the slightest reason. To take them actively while you know your own body is killing you sounds like a recipe for panic attacks while high.

You can just google Johns Hopkins psilocobyin trials and look at it yourself.

Or since we're on /tv/ you can just watch this documentary. First half is about mushrooms in general and the second half is about psilocybin as a medicine. And they talk to patients and doctors from the Johns Hopkins study
>>
>>219543429
Nah, ive taken shrooms and been around people who have done them dozens of times. Going into a trip with a bad mindset is one of the worst things you can do. I couldn't imagine knowing I have 12 months to live and have an active tumor growing inside me while I trip. I guarentee most normies wouldn't be able to handle it either.
>>
>>219543467
damn thank god we have this retarded anon to invalidate the scientific study with his anecdote
>>
>>219543467
They had a therapy session beforehand to let them know what to expect, and a psychiatrist sitting right next to them holding their hand throughout the whole thing. Obviously most of them broke down into tears during the trip, but curing severe depression isn't supposed to be a comfortable experience. You have to come to terms with a lot of painful realizations, so of course it's hard
>>
2 years, 4 months, and 3 weeks, and 1 day sober.
Spent a week in the acu with withdrawal. Was seeing shit and hearing shit. Last drink was half a glass of Sailor Jerry.
>>
>>219543467
I have shroom gummies and have really no reason to take them, the last time I did was to watch last year's Eurovision
>>
>>219543520
I never really understood people who take shrooms for fun (after having tried it once). The odds of developing schizophrenia are pretty small but serious enough that I would only ever risk using it as a medicine for mental health conditions
>>
>>219543503
Good thing there's also studies that show shrooms have little to no impact on people suffering from depression. Keep frying your brain with psychedelics, faggot.
>>
>>219543405
>People freak the fuck out on shrooms for the slightest reason.
sounds like boomer propaganda. All 10 or so people I've know that have used psychs absolutely loved them every time. It's 5-7 hours of euphoria basically.

>>
>>219543658
Such as? The only ones I can find is Imperial College's one where they used an insignificantly small dose, and began to see great benefits when they used proper dosages, and a few couple of small ones where they didn't find psilocybin to be more effective than SSRIs.

Johns Hopkins is ranked the 6th best hospital in the entire world and they've gone all-in on this.

And then you have the best medical schools in the world like Harvard, Stanford, Yale, Kings College London backing everything up and doing their own studies with very similar results.

What I find most interesting is that in every trial in every country, whether it's to treat PTSD, depression, anxiety, nicotine addiction or alcohol, addiction, about 13% of people don't respond at all. Like they are immune to the effects. Wonder if they tried to figure out what exactly is wrong in those peoples brains
>>
>>219540571

>>219543120
Uh… no. I’m in the Midwest though so it’s going to be region dependent. I’m agnostic and that wasn’t always easy in the rooms. Every meeting is a little different also. Some meetings were absolutely awful. Some were good.
>>219543061
Then alcohol is your higher power.

Anon, whether you believe in god or not, there’s a higher power out there. If nothing else it’s the physics that dictate change in the universe that we’re unable to control. Life’s movement in time is all powerful and we either embrace it and are freed by that, or are crushed under the unrelenting forward movement while fighting. That sounds much more powerful than I am. The universe is so vast and we’re so small. Just accepting that is submitting to a higher power.

I've done shrooms 4 times, first 3 of those times were fun, but the last time I did it, it made me feel very sketchy and uncomfortable, did not reach the level of a panic attack or anything but it was a pretty bad experience. I will never touch shrooms again

Meanwhile I've done LSD over a hundred times and never had a single bad experience
>>
>>219544930

wow. I've done it maybe 20 times. Shrooms maybe 10. now that I think of it, I know two people who had a very strange experience with shrooms, once because he said he took way too much, as in wandering around way far off from where he intended to be (a Phish lot I think, lol).
