>>219546773Thing is, Star Trek course corrected, but things like S1-3 of STD, PIC, one really bad marketing trailer for LD, and Section 31 existing at all ruined the image of the modern franchise to the point where people don't even watch the shows. They watch someone else watch the show for 15-45 minutes on youtube, screech and howl at background characters with no lines or at some 5 second bad scene, then ignore 99% of the actual episode, details, & plot and tell everyone it's shit because the intentionally-made-wrong hologram licked some rocks in a visual gag for 3 seconds. Despite the screeching of /trek/ autists who can't handle that writers who actually knew the material poked fun at said material, LD is good. It's not great or perfect, but it's good. PROD is a fantastic VOY sequel that got overlooked because it aired on Nick and had a really fucked hiatus, so people assumed it was for kids, rather than general audiences. SNW being episodic with a branching season arc means that you end up with great episodes, then a shit one immediately after. It's personal taste as to what ones are what, but overall it's a very good show 90% of the time. STD has reason for people to not watch it. S1-3 are dogshit, hard carried by lorca then pike. 4 tires to course correct, and 5 was more akin to SNW quality, but it was too late by then. The damage and retardation was done. And then there's SFA... The most undeserving victim of the, 'I didn't watch it, I let a ragebait youtuber watch it for me!' crowd. Fucking fantastic show, but all you see of it is a weird ass nignog (that, in show, was canonically, verbally, spelt out to the audience that she was made wrong on purpose), klingon in a tactical skirt (who is a fucking awesome character), fat dyke on the bridge who was never seen again past her 3 lines in ep 1, the fem'hadar (who is fucking hilarious; worf but suicidally funny), background wheelchair cadet who is never seen again, or the space gypsy alien captain sittin funny

Everybody takes their dumb fucking politics so seriously and won't shut the fuck up about it. It's all so crazy and mean and just plain annoying. I think what's happened to these franchises is a reflection of that tendency. Look at the people making this stuff. I bet it would be just as shitty if it their politics were the opposite. All of these shows are clearly politically informed from the very foundation in a way that is lame as hell.
