What was her fucking problem?

Surrounded by Italians
>>
I recall her acting sweet to her grandchildren: AJ and Meadow. So she's not all bad.
>>
What do want from her? She gave her life to her kids on a silver platter.

Livia has almost none of the symptoms of BPD. She does not present a strong fear of abandonment, she was in a stable relationship with Tony's father unitl his death and remained single after, didn't exhibit any issues with self-image, not prone to taking risks, some outbursts but not a consistent pattern.

Sometimes you're just a cunt and there's no need to put an arbitrary label on it. DSM is not the bible and modern psychiatry isn't gospel. You can't reduce every unique mind to a neat diagnosis.

Her husband was an occasionally imprisoned psycho bastard who killed himself from smoking and her equally psycho son was in fact trying to push her out to pasture and take her money and property

Being corrupted by mafia shit for decades. Even if she wasn't directly involved, it turned her into a completely evil person.

lmao sure armchairing bot mfer

She had NPD ackshually, she doesn't display the wild swings between loving/hating (splitting) or the characteristic "I hate you don't leave"

I suppose it's splitting hairs as BPD is basically just extra weird NPD with less grandiosity
>>
Annoying kids. Imagine living with Janice and Tony.
>>
>>219573128
She had two virginia hams but no bread
>>
>>219573245
she told aj that he was gonna die alone in his own arms. also enabled meadow into just wanting money as a simple reward. she didn't help shit.

Livia was the most annoying and irritating character in the series. I'm glad the actress died and cucked chase out of making YET ANOTHER STORY ARC of her same bullshit over and over again.

oh pooor you
>>
>>219580596
I do wonder how that would have played out. Would Tony have whacked Olivia or something?
>>
>>219580650
He would just fluff her pillow
>>
>>219579602
She was though, maybe watch the show. He was a saint.
>>
>>219573128
She was really busy being the best villain in the entire show
>>
She is future Tony/Janice. Basically what awaits them if they continue their ways (which they do). The vicious cycle that keeps repeating. We can't tell where it started for her but it's clear her husband was partly responsible, and together they are responsible for passing it on to Tony and Janice. And it's unclear if Tony had passed it on to his kids.
>>
It's all a big nothing

Did you watch a different show? She manipulated Junior into whacking Tony for this exact reason

She was way too realistic a character. Definitely based on some writers mum or something.

The woman next door ran the water all day, it was like living next to Gunga Din

>>219584744
Manipulating people isn't a defining characteristic of BPD. You'd have to accuse just about anyone of having BPD if that was the case. Maybe try actually reading the diagnostic criteria in DSM.
>>
>>219578626
I’ve been to a few therapists. None were psychiatrists, just msw. Some were better than others. The good ones I went as far as could with them stopped going. I’m in a phase in my life now where I’m sorted enough to seek on my own.

I never had a therapist who wouldn’t work with me on price when insurance wouldn’t cover it and I never had one who wouldn’t let me pay as I could and owe them the balance while I continued to go. I never payed over $75 a session (I am in Midwest). I never had one push meds.

It’s like anything else, it’s a scam if you go to a scammer. There are legitimately people who want to help.
>>
>>219584888
David Chase (creator of the series) said it was based on his mother.
In fact most of the show was based on aspects of his life and youth and views of things like family drama, the changing culture of America, therapy, etc. He just used the mafia story to attract mainstream support.
>>
>>219586601
While I believe the entire industry is a scam and is a sign of the degregation of modern society in general, I'm glad that you've found a relatively affordable business. Here in my country it's usually at least double that price. I've never used one and never will, but my girlfriend does.
I should have goen into this racket, I'd make more money with far less work than being a junior lawyer!
>>
she gave her life on a silver platter to her ungrateful children
>>
>>219586601
>There are legitimately people who want to help.
Too bad they can't. Therapy does absolutely nothing.
>>
>>219579762
if you talk to anyone diagnosed with bpd one on one they will tell you that they don't feel how they act and their behaviour is to elicit a feeling on you
>>
Her husband was unfaithful and saw Tony going down the same path. She was unironically right about everything.
>>
>>219588890
It really depends on what you believe to be true. Johnny was both a saint and hit her and cheated on her. The show is largely from Tony's perspective and his tendency to glorify the old days. In Camelot, which a crappy ep overall, puts on display how much Tony lies to himself.
>>
being put in a nursing home while her son lived in a big house and then tried to seel her home
>>
>>219590772
>burn down house
>almost kill the one friend you had
>refuse live-in help
Tony can't be blamed. Besides, she ended up liking it there. Too bad she spilled the beans about them undermining Junior.

They did a pretty good job of walking the line between her genuinely going senile and being a manipulative psycho.
>>
>>219588488
The emotional instability is "real" (that's not a pass though) and I'm well aware they're manipulative almost on an instinctual level (rather than a "logical" level). Still she definitely leans towards NPD rather than BPD in my opinion (even though ultimately they're probably basically the "same" disorder)
>>
>>219591381
yeah it's all instinct, I kept contact with this kind of people for a long time and they all seem to alternate between different types of pd behaviour throughout the years, you can't say they are consistently one or another
