They travel at a much more reasonable 200 miles per second rather than 186,282 miles per second that light does. If you're having trouble understanding the distinction, then rather than imagining beams of light shooting from Homelander's eyes, imagine a super condensed blowtorch that can shoot out like 50 meters.
