Pieces of shit movies from a piece of shit movie series. The first movie was mildly tolerable if you make the effort of ignoring the illogic act of betraying your own species, but the other two are such obnoxious niggerspeak filled drivel without any substance to match to beautiful scenery, that I sincerely wish Varang would have holocausted every single navi tribe like they fucking deserve.

Way of Water might just be the best one. Maybe it doesn't hit the same way watching it at your house but seeing it in cinemas was basically a once in a lifetime experience, like James Cameron wiping away all the sludge and shit from Hollywood for 2-3 hours and showing you "this is what you can have when the creators really care about quality".

>>
>>219581194
They look so good that audiences completely forget the people on screen aren't just people wearing a costume. Neytiri, Kiri, Varang don't exist but viewers fully believe they do. The effects are state of the art and best in the industry. Puts all other movies to shame big time. That's why the third movie kinda hurts. I wish Jim had a better story arc for 3 but I think there was big drama and re-writes behind the scenes.
>>
>>219584874
Firstly, the Navi aren't speaking English to each other, they are speaking in their own language. The only time English is spoken is when they talk to the sky people. Secondly, they are allowed to have slang in their language.

Can't believe I share a board with such media illiterate people.
>>
I watched 2 and 3 like two weeks ago, after only having seen the first one when it came out.

They weren't like, offensively bad by any means, though I wouldn't say they were amazing. As CGI novelties they're fine, at no point was I brought out of the experience by bad or ugly CGI or low-effort stuff, it's very clear that significant artistic effort went into every shot. Narratively, though they were just average, just kind of generic plots with some fantasy worldbuilding on top of them.

My biggest issue is actually not with the characters or the world or the CGI or any of that, but more the fact that Avatar 1, 2, and 3 are all literally the exact same movie. They have the same central plot, the same characters, and the same conflicts, with only minor changes in the scenery around those elements. Which is why I have to wonder, since they are making a 4th one, is that ALSO going to have the same plot?

Is Avatar 4 just going to be "Humans come back, again again, this time they're both after a different Pandora resource for money but also sending their best military tech out to find Jake Sully"? The exact same thing that happened three times already? Or are we going to get some sort of narrative progression of the world where now that the Navi have guns and shit we don't need to bother with that anymore and can do something else.
>>
>>219587483
>literally the exact same movie
No, they're not. All other points of your garbage disingenuous opinion discarded and not necessary to read.
>>
>>219588626
What exactly is the difference between Avatar 1, 2, and 3?

>Humans come
>Humans want thing
>Humans beat up some Navi to get thing and fuck with their nature in the process
>Jake Sully leads his adoptive people to fight back against the humans despite being outmatched technologically but they're going to win anyway.
>Some magic macguffin shit happens to help them at some point.

The set dressing is different but all three movies are literally just this.

imo Way of Water is closer to a masterpiece.
Fire and Ash feels like a lot was lost in editing, rewrites, reshoots, and it falls short of whatever the original vision for it was.

With stuff like
>abrupt ending with no sense of what the new status quo is or how much the big finale mattered
>Doctor Garvin vanishes, we're not shown if he escaped or if he paid a price for helping save Jake
>no explanation for the giant flux vortex being there, so it comes across as just another obligatory sky beam in a blockbuster
>Lyle is handed Neytiri's bow, Neytiri has her bow back a couple scenes later, we're not shown what happened in between or where Lyle went
>David Thewlis as the leader of the Wind Traders has only a couple lines, and was clearly meant to be more significant than that

And Lyle should have had a big problem with riding out with Quaritch any way. Lyle was a loyal soldier following orders and shown to be losing trust in Quaritch after Quaritch repeatedly fucks up their missions and is going native. Now Quaritch is grounded by the lawful commander of the human forces and Lyle is supposed to just be like "eh, you want to break the law fly out? I'll go with you!" It seemed more like they were setting up a conflict arc to arise between them which would actually grow Lyle's character or at least have Lyle disagree and remain at base as ordered. But then just dropped it and kept Lyle as a dumb stooge only loyal to Quaritch no matter what. Quaritch was supposed to go full traitor and kill the General even. Would have been more interesting than what we got with the General being one of the most disappointing things in any Cameron film in history.

They used the made-up word skxawng to refer to their friends in a teasing manner in lieu of 'dummy' or 'silly'. They even had 'ma tsmuke' the older ones used in the first movie but for the zoom zooms they started saying 'cuz' and it sounded absolutely retarded

Nobody on Earth honestly believes this. I respect Cameron's deep commitment to preserving and protecting nature, however these movies are just way to self-indulgent and hamfisted. WOW THE ULTRAGIGALLIONAIRES OF DA FUTURE WANT TO EAT SPACE WHALE BRAINS BECAUSE IT WILL LET THEM LIVE FOREVER, ERM NATIVES CAN BE FOOLED INTO DESTROYING THEIR SACRED CULTURE BECAUSE THEY GET SHINY ROCKS(that shoot fire) AND THIS IS LE BAD! Cameron is a masterful artist and director but these movies as his final legacy are a joke.

Way of Water is better than the first one. It does something original, it stays smaller-scale with no major victory over the enemy which is unusual and refreshing for a big blockbuster, and it's not so obviously derivative of prior works

I actually really like Way of Water's score, though the better tracks are mostly in the second half of the movie.

I won't link it since you're not there yet but "From Darkness to Light" is a standout
>>
I had an impossible time suspending disbelief that the native force would be able to overcome the weaponry, equipment, intelligence gathering, and tactics of a space-faring humanity. They'd get utterly fucking smoked, and I don't remember anything that showed why that shouldn't be the case. But it was ages ago since I watched the first one, and I only caught part of one of the sequels besides that.

>>219619635
The native force mostly doesn't overcome the human technology. In each movie they get some kind of assist from Pandoran wildlife.
When the native force scores small wins on its own, it's through guerilla tactics and having acquired human weaponry.

At the beginning of the 3rd movie there's a scene where Jake argues he can't fight back with arrows and spears, and has no choice but to collect human guns and explosives even though the Na'vi frown upon it
>>

Avatar 2 is the odd one out. Kino randomly placed in an otherwise mediocre trilogy.
The first film is a very cliched 5 or 6 /10
2 is a genuine 8 or 9/10
3 is like a 6 or 7/10
3 would be a lot better if it wasn't such a retread of 2, or if it had an ending that actually concluded anything
>>
>>219579899

Pic unrelated? Lets be real here for a second, this generation has no cultural identity. I mean, they do if you count capeshit and nostalgia bait media but that´s somehow even sadder. That fact may make something like avatar, which has an average narrative and it´s technically profiscient, like something remarkable when in truth it´s just mediocre. There is just nothing memorable or iconic about it and the cinematography lacks any kind of authoral stylish identity.

To call it a masterpiece just because it´s not as shit at the rest of the contemporary productions is plain simply wrong. That kind of nomenclature is reserved for films that are objectively the best of the best cinema has to offer, for timeless classics capable of enduring the test of time. It is not something to be so easily awarded.
