Why was he such a loud whiny faggot? Also anyone else thinks it's unironic how he laments and romanticizes the strong silent type but then gets cucked by Furio who is exactly that
>>
>>219588521
Oh look another internet tough guy. Bro thinks he's marlo from the wire but he's really davey "I got my ass beat during business hours in my own store" scatino
>>
>>219588521
That's literally the entire point - he idolises an archtype that he doesn't even come close to living up to, and he despises that type when he actually meets them.
Also, as a fun fact, Mad Men is basically the spiritual prequel to The Sopranos (written by one of the main writers of The Sopranos seasons 5-6) and Don Draper is EXACTLY the strong silent type Tony idolised. Make of that what you will, if you've seen the show.
One of the many things that made Tony insecure and upset was his own awareness of the fact that he was a weak whiny faggot compared to the old-school men he idolised. He himself was well aware of this issue, so there's no irony here. It's one of the main themes of the show. Tony instead deflects the blame onto modern society in general for making men like this.

Cunnalingus and psychiatry
>>
>>219588625
Draper is crying and whining every 5 seconds.
>>219588521
The whole point was that he idolized the archetype because of internalized anti-italian sentiments, the whole show is about the consequences of living in a society built on anti-italian racism.
>>
>>219588625
well tony is right. hes living in the 2000s for chris sake but grew up in the 60's and 70s. imagine the culturshock, everything eroded and goyslopped all up by the time your grown. thats what he sees in AJ too, that hes just the product of the next pussification and then if AJ even reproduces at all. thats the end game.
tony is mad hes getting goyslopped and hes right

Tony is actually very much the strong silent type outside of the forced psychiatry plotline where they try to psy-op you into thinking he's a bitch as their ploy to take down the patriarchy and shill for big pharma. For how much crap he has to deal with including immediate family members trying to murder him and the FBI hanging an anvil over his head, it's actually impressive how poised he is.
>>
>>219588521
Yes dude that’s the point of the show - Tony is a lame pussy who spergs out and cheats on his wife because that’s what he thinks strong tough guys are supposed to do. He lives a lie on top of being an evil criminal, and he ends up paying the ultimate price. Chase always talked about the fact that he had a lot of difficulty getting the audience to stop rooting for Tony
>>
>>219588521
Nice lazy eye
>>
>>219588521
That's the point of the show. He idolized something that never existed. His mind paved over all the shit he didn't want to recognize.

Every generation does it.
>>
>>219589728
>getting the audience to stop rooting for Tony
That's where he's a moron. Even if your main character is an unlikable mess, you still have to root for them otherwise there is no connection to keep watching other than to see him whacked.

As I recall, he had a problem with that, too. Chase himself was just a whiny, confused bitch.
>>
>>219590082
Chase was clinically depressed, I’m sure Tony’s characterization was mostly based on his own experience
>>
>>219588521
Because the romanticism was never real.
>Watch Mafia films.
>"MAFIA HAD RULES, THE OLD SCHOOL DIDN'T DEAL DRUGS!"
>Lucky Luciano who helped develop the National Crime Syndicate in the 1920s-30s.
>One of the most major guys.
>Used to deal heroin in the 1920s.
They romanticise shit like the old school "code" and things, but it was always similar: drama and politics.
>>
>>219588521
Imagine being killed by your dinner
>>
He is whiny because he hates his existence. He hates his existence because he psyopped himself into becoming a gangster to impress his narcissistic father and now he can't get out alive.
>>
>>219590161
>Chase was clinically depressed
is that the running excuse for the many saints movie?
>>
How many killings a year can be attributed to the mafia in the greater NYC metro area?
>>
>>219588521
That's the joke; he's spiritually female (and not even a "good" one) -i.e. NPD (he's not even turned into his father, but his mother)
>>
>>219592343
>he's spiritually female
alright cool it with the anti-italian remarks
>>
>>219589728
The Tony B "you don't make fun of me" scene really shows it
>>
>>219588521
>it's unironic how he laments and romanticizes the strong silent type but then gets cucked by Furio who is exactly that
Furio never works up the nerve the fuck Carmella or to kill Tony, two things he could do effortlessly at a time when Tony was rapidly losing his crew's respect. Furio goes back to Italy forever rather than challenge an obese moron
>>
>>219589618
>forced
Its the premise of the show, and Tony is absolutely a bitch because he keeps having debilitating panic attacks. Melfi's analyses and drugs actually make Tony a lot better at his job
>>
>>219592343
>i.e. NPD
what the fuck is that? speak straight, faggot
>>
>>219590082
People root for Tony because they can identify with being in over your head, not knowing how to handle your family, fucking up at work and having to do something ten times as difficult because you didn't do the right thing in the first place, understanding your whole lifestyle is meaningless and lashing out because you're powerless to change. Tony is unsympathetic because he's a criminal, but as a man he's got some fairly universal problems
>>
>>219588521
he was gary cooper, furio giunta?
>>
>>219590450
One of fews who actually fucking get it. Johnny Boy was a fucking horrible father and when Tony figures out he hates him so he changes (again).
>>219592889
And also this. He is very believable character with his own universal shortcomings. His own motivations are even mystery to himself. He is the greatest character ever written for TV or movie.
>>
>>219588521
He was only almost-cucked by Furio. His real cucking was far worse: Mr. Wegler.
>>
I’m rewatching this thing of ours. I skip over all the Carmela and AJ scenes. Some of the melfi ones too. Ask me nothing.

Mr. Wegler molested AJ?
>>
>>219593273
I skip all the Tony scenes, i cant his breathing and he's o pathetic.
>>
>>219592806
His spells didn't make him a bitch, they weren't controllable. And even in the twisted macho mafia culture, nobody who mattered (like Carmine) really cared at all.
