You should watch more silent films. Most of them are public domain now.
>>219594031are there porns?
Why?

I'd recommend Caligari, Die Nibelungen Pt. 1, Sherlock Jr, and the original Nosferatu. Maybe Birth of a Nation if you're feeling edgy. But apart from these, silent films are pretty dull.
>>219594704Haxan.
>>219594031Everyone needs to watch Metropolitan and Faust at least once.
>>219594031I never watch them, and I watch old movies almost exclusively. I don't watch foreign movies either, I'm not sure I qualify as a cinephile despite watching thousands of films.

>>219594031I can't be entertained by a silent film. They're nothing more than curios. The only exception might be slapstick comedy, but I'd much rather watch an animated short like Tom & Jerry.
I'd rather be bored.
>>219597145Thats idiotic, a lot of silent movies are more advanced, fast paced, and emotional than movies made today. Metropolis is basically a modern blockbuster in every way except there is only music. Everything is so standardized now that often times silent movies feel more modern than modern movies since they are experimenting way more in the way things are shot and edited.
>>219594031How am I going to hear anything if they're silent?
>>219594031I can watch Buster Keaton movies since they're short and have good action, but watching serious two hour dramas just doesn't work for me.
Everybody post your favorite quotes.I'll start:
>>219594031>Seventh Heaven >Sunriseand the entire catalogue of Buster Keaton silent movies are worth watching. I haven't really dipped too deep into silents but the good stuff I have scene is some of the best shit I've seen on film.
>>219596832>>Passion of Joan of Arc (1928)>>Metropolis (1927)Metropolis is an incoherent mess. Passion of Joan of Arc takes tedium to new heights.
>>219594031Can't get into them. The combination of classical music and no dialogue just puts me to sleep. Maybe if they had jazz soundtracks I could stay awake.
>>219599090>t. has never cross-dressedYou'd find her trial more personally compelling if you'd loosen up and live a little.
>>219599090>Metropolis is an incoherent messMetropolis is a basic three act structure sci fi movie with a couple interlocking stories and timeless easily understood themes, what is incoherent about it?>Passion of Joan of Arc takes tedium to new heightsPassion is one of the most fast paced and uniquely shot films of all time. Of all the words you could have chosen to criticize it “tedium” makes the least sense
>>219598974Was she sure that all that glittered was gold?
>>219599138I think you're more likely to get into them if you're "broken in" to them. I took a film module at uni, and was forced to watch the silent classics. Once adjusted to the style, I begin to find silent films I enjoyed. But I still think Metropolis and Joan are crap, and I'll never change my mind about them.
>>219594597Silent Movie
>>219599615>what is incoherent about it?Admittedly, I haven't seen it in a long time. I forget much, and can't get into the specifics with you. But my enduring impression of the film is that it was crudely cobbled together and sometimes didn't make sense.
>>219599729I took film history in college we watched some D.W. Griffith and those movies bored me to tears. Also tried to watch several silent horrors and even though I'm a horrorfag I couldn't get into them. I think I've tried about 25-30 silent films and that's enough to realize that they just aren't for me. I did kinda like the Chaplin and Buster Keaton stuff, and Underworld 1927 was a neat early gangster flick, but I don't think I would ever watch them again.
>>219599729One thing I had to realize is that silent film is fundamentally a different art form than sound pictures. You cannot apply all of the same judgement criteria you do to silents that you might for talkies.
>>219594031Available with English inter titles in following link -https://m.ok.ru/video/10249036892881Greek silent film version of romance Daphnis and Chloe from 1931. Thematically a proto-Fascist film it is a romance about two good natured rural sheep herders who fall in love but get lost in the city of Mitylene where homosexuals and prostitutes try to go to bed with them and tear them apart. This is a heavily Fascist leaning film from the 30s era before Greece/ Europe fell to Liberal ideology. Enjoy
>>219594704Greed is great. Soviet silents influenced directors
silent films never have the requisite in situ score
Passion of Joan of Arc is must see
>>219594031op is why .webms on /tv/ don't allow sound. thanks a bunch
>>219596832>>219596832Nice reccsArt is subjective, but someone who is a cinephile that actively seeks out films during the 'silent era', Haxan is S tier imo and worth the watch.
>>219595468Out of interest, foreign films...Is it because you can't deal with reading subtitles?
