What the fuck was that
>>
>>219594126
They put some spic cunt in charge of the show and surprise surprise, it's ruined.
>>
>>219594126
Test run for LLM screenwriting.
>>
>>219594218
It certainly felt like AI during some parts.
>>
>>219594218
>>219594252
it really does have the worst writing I have ever seen in a HBO prestige-tier production
>>
>>219594218
Thats litterally every Disney+ show.
And rings of power.
>>
It's sad that it was so bad cuz if you told me
>True Detective but in Alaska and with lesbo female leads, one of them being Jodie Foster
I would've been so fucking hooked if I didn't know what it was.
I couldn't finish the first ep, the dialogue was so aggressively obnoxious and it was shot like some cheap horror stinker.
>>
>>219594386
>if you told me [close to worst pitch possible] I would’ve been hooked
>>
>>219594386
I gave it a chance based on
>muh Alaska
and
>muh Foster
but shockingly the first episode was the best one. It's insane how many plot points were either forgotten or developed in ways that made no sense. It legitimately felt like when you ask an LLM to write a story and it starts losing track of what it's generating.
>>
The worst thing was that there was never any explanation for most of the spooky shit happening and they refused to just lean into it actually being something supernatural. If you want to ride the line where it's maybe spooky and maybe really happening, fine, but the shit happening has to have some plausible real-world explanation
>>
Its seriously not as bad as all the haters say. You all just hate women and the fact that Pizza got fucked. It has some problems but it's more engaging than DEM KEEDS. You haters are getting a rehash of the first season now anyways so just stfu
>>
>>219594769
The entire series is like that. Its kind of the point. Even in the first season there was no explanation for the reddit cosmos sequence or several other loose ends
>>
>>219594847
>The entire series is like that
No it isn't. In the first season Rust has weird fucked up visions but they're explained as being a consequence of his heavy drug use when he was undercover. There is a possible explanation for it, so it can ride the line between maybe being supernatural and maybe being prosaic.

Night Country does shit like this and then forgot to put any explanation for it in because the writing was incompetent.
>>
None of you even watched it. You just heard bad things and are repeating them or dropped it after the first ep. You know what I dropped halfway through? Season 2. You people have no right to complain about things that have been present from the start
>>
>>219594933
Awful bait
>>
>>219594931
The first season has so many loose ends that just get dropped once they take out muh green ears. There were so many other people involved. They didn't solve the case. They didn't deliver justice. It mirrors reality with the epstein situation
>>
>>219594126
A series written without any sort of connection to True Detective, that was then forced by HBO into the True Detective-universe for name recognition and all they did in the rewrite was add some shallow references to season 1.
>>
>>219594962
I'm being dead serious. I tried quoting you all but got flagged as spam
>>
>>219594992
While this is true, the second season feels exactly like that too and none of you complain about it

Thats not how it was explained. It was left unexplained.

It’s funny how many parallels there are between True Detective season 1 and Serial the podcast. Both came out the same year and became national sensations. The subsequent seasons were never going to be able to repeat that hype.
>>
>>219595355
Who the fuck still listens to podcasts
>>
How do you go from s1 to "true crime for spinsters too sophisticated for youtube essays"
>>
The end with them covering up the murder of the scientists was literally the opposite of true detective work and McConaughey would never have done that shit
>>
>>219595434
Podcasting has arguably never been more popular than it is now. That said, I think NPR style investigative podcasts like Serial have maybe declined in popularity.
>>
>>219594468
This lmao at thinking 2 lesbo leads is good, should've been Jodie and an Eskimo man if they want diversity points

I mostly listen to comedy podcasts, but not the ones that are popular on /tv/ like Cum Town. I gave it a try and hated it.

Such a bad season.
They seemed to want to emulate season 1 without really understanding it. Oh, so there were some hints at supernatural stuff? Let's include spooky screaming ghost girls! Oh, so the detectives were troubled and flawed? Let's make these two detectives into assholes with weird backstories.
And the fucking explanation for it all was terrible. So a cleaning lady finds a secret hatch in a research lab, she climbs down into it and finds a tool that looks like it's been used to kill someone. The Cleaning Lady Squad then gain access to the police rapport describing the wounds the dead girl had - it matches the tool!
So then the obvious choice is to gather up everyone at the base, not knowing if all, or any, of them are guilty, drive them out into the wasteland, strip them naked, and leave them there. But they didn't kill them!
And that's somehow presented as justice and the two detectives don't reveal this to anyone. And then one of the detectives finally gather up the courage to walk into the wasteland, probably never to be seen again, which is also presented as a good thing.
Such a stupid fucking season.
>>
Can't believe they're letting the director make another season when they didnt have the same director for a single previous season and she was the worst one and now she gets another season.

>>219594812
Absolutely not more engaging than S3. 4 made 3 look like S1. And it has nothing to do with women its bad acting, writing, and direction the negris wasn't even a real actor like every other lead detective the show has had thus far
>>
>>219595663
Thats really sad to hear then. I would prefer the Nightvale types who just sit in a corner silently over that sports ball bud light ac/dc horseshit

that was extremely boring, I wouldn't say it was rage inducingly bad
just very boring generic slop
>>
>>219595707
They didn't attempt to emulate s1 at all except for the spiral. You are on crack. You're right about the big reveal being a let down but the point of the season wasnt the reveal, it was the journey to get there. The beats with the drug addicted traumatized explorer were excellent
>>
>>219595764
Isn't that supposed to be Rust's dad?

It was legitimately hilarious. I watched it with my sister since she loves the first season so much. We both burst out laughing when they showed who dunnit.
>>
>>219594126
It's not woke. It's just an entire town full of stronk women saying enough is enough and coming together to kill a bunch of toxic males.
>>
Taking a great setting and wasting it on a giant pile of shit.
>>
>>219595727
Bro comedy podcasters like Shane Gillis are the new shock jocks.
>>
>>219595911
I'll take some comfort in the fact that only a subsection of low iq individuals in society engage with such slop
>>
>>219595867
Why can't you just take a story at face value. Why do you have to go into the demographics of the characters? What is wrong with you?
>>
>>219594933
Wrong i watched the whole thing to figure out what happened and the finale was far worse than I imagined, no justice was served

>>219595058
S2 was quality well acted and directed complex detective story with high stakes where the location felt like a being itself. All of that made it a fine sequel, it didnt need to be in a southern state, and it still dealt with sex trafficking
>>
>>219596024
It tried to play close to the vest whether it was woke or not for most of the show and then BOOM surprise bitches!... We're full MEGA woke suckers! ha ha!
>>
>>219595058
Season 2 was a massive step down in terms of both acting and writing compared to Season 1 and it's still fucking light years ahead of the absolute incompetence of Night Country.
>>
>>219595833
yeah im pretty sure that was supposed to be his dad
but besides those retarded callbacks leading absolutely nowhere this show couldve been called something different and nothing wouldve changed
>>
>>219596265
s2 was clearly a castrated piece of work
>>
I like how all of those egghead scientists just ganged up and brutally murdered a woman just because she screwed up their research and toxic masculinity or something
>>
>>219596315
I enjoyed S2 more than S1 because I watched it on my own and never participated in the threads here because I didn't have HBO. It was back when I had the ad cut the cable cord and streaming wasn't yet the thing so I bought all of the shows I wanted to watch like GoT, True Detective and Person of & interest a year later when they came out on DVD.
>>
>>219594126

IDK, gave it an episode or two because of Jodie Foster but got bored by the setting, subpar cinematography and excessive character drama related to minorities.
>>
>>219596416
Scientists are known for being really impulsive hothead types you know
>>
>>219595812
>They didn't attempt to emulate s1
Sure, that's why Rust’s father shows up.
And the spiral.
And Carcossa.
And supernatural elements.
And Tuttle United.

Hey, what did Jodie Foster say about it?
“It was nice to reimagine [‘True Detective’] from a female point of view — a genuine female point of view, where you have characters that are messy, peculiar, and need each other,” Foster said. “There’s a sort of a weird sisterhood there, where they hate each other but they have each other’s backs and they respect one another. Even their relationships to their sexuality, which are also kind of messed up, were interesting when you revisit the original ‘True Detective’ — it’s a way of seeing what happens when you apply a female gaze to this anthology.”

But sure, they didn't attempt to emulate it at all...
>>
>>219596621
broseph all of that shit got shoehorned in at the last second to force some easter eggs to s1, that's not the same thing as "emulating" s1 at all. it would have been a MUCH better season if they actually just ripped off and repeated the plot of season 1 in a different setting.
>>
>>219596736
The reason doesn't matter. It doesn't matter who made the decision or why, they ended up wanting to emulate S1.
I've no doubt that they shoehorned it in - like I said, they seemed to want to emulate season 1 without really understanding it. They apparently originally wanted to have the season split up in different years, past and present, because that's how S1 did it.
They wanted to emulate it. People love S1 and they wanted to appear similar to that. You don't see a lot of references to S2 or S3 right?
>>
>>219595764
This is what happens when you let theater kids make movies. These stupid dorks really think people see interpretive dancing as anything but cringe.
>>
>>219594126
that was... T NIG
>>
>>219595566
bruh its adhd world, constant stimulation. if the zoomers cant look at a screen, they listen to a screen.
does this really surprise you? podcasts are bigger then ever, and fucking everyone has one.
>>
>>219595625
i always felt it should've been one of his daughters on the tape to elicit this much emotion.
>>
>>219595833
no, it's better, it's Rust's dad GHOST
And it actually talks to his mom and points her to real directions and the mom really takes them and they are correct
>>
>>219594971
They go over this in the final scene at the hospital.
