I have been trying for many years to find the name of a video from 1990-1999 and I only have the plot. Many years ago, another customer at a Blockbuster video store said that she knew the video and had bought it, but couldn't remember the name. The video dealer said that he could find any video, but was unsuccessful. The plot goes as follows and is really three stories in one: Two eskimo brothers and mother are in village and older brother wants younger to go hunting with him, but younger brother wants to leave and get job in big city. Mother tells about family legend of father helping men in stranded ship and then turning into a polar bear. Younger brother goes out in snow on snow mobile and finds woman in freezing to death after wandering from scientific station. He saves her and brings her to hospital. Younger brother goes to big city and gets a job with newspaper reporter covering story (in the process, he visits small museum with picture on wall of eskimo with stranded ship and men. Eskimo is his grandfather who saved men and was then killed). Story is about woman and no one is allowed to visit her (we find out later that a nuclear submarine below ice where research station is located has sunk and high levels of radiation have overexposed woman who is dying). Reporter detective work sorts this out, but eskimo's village needs to be evacuated. Older brother won't leave village, but goes on hunting trip instead to find remains of ship that legend says his dad turned into polar bear. Younger brother goes to find older brother. Finds him freezing to death, so story ends with younger brother staying with older brother and dying with him.

Map of the Human Heart took place in the 1930s, this took place at least during or after the Cold War. Also one of the important plot points was the two brothers tending to a dying white woman, who was later revealed to have died from radiation.

Japan was in total isolation for a period that would have been perfect for them to reach the natives during.
