Jackson guitars are cool because they look the coolest. "But the tone!" Nah as long as the action isn't fucked or something they're going into a modeling amp + one million effects pedals anyway. I have a Kelly because they look rock and roll. It's red. Let the goyim - I mean acoustic players - deal in the tonal world. Aesthetics Uber Alles. So I guess I'd name a cool style-over-substance movie with great aesthetics. Fucking Sin City maybe?

>>219624290For $5,000 my advice is find a one man builder. You can get someone to make you a Jackson or a Gibson. Tony Iommi's SG was made in a guy's kitchen. Angus' are Gibsons. MY maine problem with factory guitars is an obese mexican grandma who doesn't play guitar is going to use a file jig to bevel the frets and sometimes they don't have enough room for the first and sixth string to vibrato without falling off the frets. What's the difference between Jackson and Charvel?
>>219624684Or Uli John Roth
>>219624914Wayne Charvel worked at Fender briefly then went out on hsi own first doing refinishing and custom work on Fenders and eventually making guitars from Boogie Bodies and Schecter wood parts in the 70s for a lot of SoCal rockstars but the business eventually went bankrupt and he sold what was left of it to luthier Grover Jackson who had been working with him. Jackson developed the company and started making necks and eventually designed the Randy Rhoads guitar and launched Jackson guitars and at that point Charvel was just Japanese made guitars. Grover Jackson sold the brand to Texas based Jap company IMC in 1989 and left the company completely in 1990 and went to Washburn or something. In current year Jackson and Charvel are owned by Fender and I they make both brands in the USA and Japan and China. Fender bought Jackson because of those Charvel strat headstock designs. The original Jackson "San Dimas" factory was actually in Glendora and but used a San Dimas PO Box. Any Jackson made between 83-86 was made there.
>>219625146I don't think his strat was scalloped but his custom guitar definitely was. Scorpions fucking rule.
>>219625196tl;dr Wayne Charvel worked at fender then made custom super strats for rockstars then sold the company to Jackson who made even cooler guitars for rockstars

>>219625282put some dimarzios in there before I shit my pants
>>219624334problem is if you buy from a good small builder you will get a superior instrument at like 3500 to a custom shop large brand like Gibshit, Jackson, Fender, etc that costs 5000-8000, but the resale value on the small builder guitar will be like 30% of what you pay, where as the resale on the Gibshit will be 75%branding is everythingmodern production has been at the point for the past 15 years where 300 dollar aliexpress guitars are just as good as USA standard range guitars
>>219625339Well you don't buy those for the resale value. Reverb and pro resellers have completely ruined the used market anyway. I was looking at Yngwie strats and they were asking 2200-2700... They're fucking 2700 new and you can get 10% off any day of the week what the fuck is wrong with these losers!!?!?!? Any guitar listed at a fair price is instantly bought and relisted for almost the new price because of these fucking faggots. I used to buy USA Jacksons for 1k-2k. Very fun little guitar though.>>219626292I'm going to put a scalloped neck with stainless steel jumbo frets on my mexican strat... I think it will be better than the $2700 USA one. they bevel the frets too much and the strings run off the frets baka.
>>219626328i never got the appeal of scalloped frets. i ain't good enough to merit whatever benefits they offer
>>219617823I have a Jackson Kelly. Neck fall is annoying. And I regret buying a guitar with a floyd rose bridge. Keeping it in tune is a pain in the ace.
>>219626350floyd roses are a love/hate. i only have 2 guitars with floyds. once you get it to stay in tune, you can't change ANYTHING. you've gotta buy the EXACT same guage of strings, you've gotta keep it in a temp-controlled room, etc. when they work properly, they're great. only problem is they hardly ever work properly
>>219626219Shock 'Em Dead is kino of the highest order
>>219625282Is that a Hello Kitty Fender?
>>219626346Prevents your finger meat from rubbing on the fingerboard and slowing you down. Also allows you to really get under the strings to bend. Same idea as big frets but even more extreme. If you don't press too hard on normal guitars I don't really see it becoming an issue. You can press too hard on any guitar but it's pretty difficult imo. I use pretty heavy strings too.
>>219626551i wish. those are worth 3x their value now. it's a MIJ repro of the HM series in the 1980s
>>219626350Once you get the floyd setup it shouldn't really be giving you trouble maybe find some good tutorials. The neck dive is a problem with anything with a big lower horn like that. Rhoads is the most comfortable standing up guitar and mine has a hard tail bridge I love it.
>>219626613Scalpers and resellers really need to be sent to concentration camps. HELLO KITTY? BUY ALL THOSE $300 GUITARS AND LIST THEM FOR $1600!!! reverb has ruined so much. Not to mention sales tax for used fucking items.

>>219629118>Dropping more that 1k on a new guitar has always seemed like diminishing returns to me, no matter the brandDont agree with this completely. For electrics, I think you have a point, for acoustics no. I spent 4k on a Beard Resonator and it is hands down the best instrument I have played.

The odd thing is, I can’t remember what happened to either of these guitars. Imagine that? I have no idea what happened to the Crossroads guitar. I must have given it to someone on the set, maybe Walter Hill the director, or Ralph Macchio, or perhaps Arlen Roth, whom I suspect I may have given it to, but I really don’t know.>Its currently in the possesion of the Hard Rock Cafe Biloxi. But what happen to the other one? Is this the one he slammed ont he floor lol?
>>219629812one of my Guitars is "porsch red" spelled like that lol it's kind of oxblood
>>219629812yeah. There is some YT guitarist who watched the scene a million times and has recreated what they actually sounded like in filming, compared to the overdubbed playing. Vai used his trad Strat in playing both parts, and Arlen Roth filled in some of the Tele parts. The original duel was supposed to feature Ry Cooder playing both parts on slide, but they shelved it for the more popular Vai. There was another duel that was filmed that immediately preceeded the one with Macchio, but it got cut too.
So this is what zoomers think is superior to "boomer bends"?https://youtu.be/7ynHVGCehoM?si=pOnlD1AnHWJYMqFj

>>219630611It's literally the core of guitar playing. Bending exposes people. So does basic improv. If you can't do nice bends and vibrato your flashy playing means nothing it would be like doing flashy basketball dribbles and then throwing up air balls and bricks and saying you're MJ.
>>219630482Classical guitar and electric guitar are totally different skills
>>219630611Paul Gilbert said when he was a teenager and first got into racer x with Bruce he realized he was getting exposed when Bruce and him did slow blues jams. He could play fast but realized he needed to work on the blues bending and phrasing. KISS. Yngwie has amazing feel and vibrato and bending. So does Angus. So does Albert King.
>>219630724That guy is an edgelord who doesn't know that classical and jazz are completely contrasting and unrelated and metal guitarists pretty much always end up learning some classical because we're neoclassical shred maniacs. I keep having dreams where I'm trying to play guitar but I can't because the neck isn't properly attached and I have to hold it on at the same time
>>219631586Where did I backtrack? And why won't you respond to my point?
>>219631311be honest you just want to sodomize a twink, hope he sees this bro
>>219631502When you say play the blues do you mean ripping on a pentatonic scale or actually putting feeling into your guitar playing? If it's the latter, I don't think Henson can do it. Blues is a great thing to learn when first starting guitar. Musically it's simple and has you focus on the emotion you put into the instrument.

>>219631352why are you talking to someone you think is clearly 13 online?
>>219631663Forget the blues. Tim and Tosin cannot play ANYTHING unless they have written it and rehearsed it. They cannot improv. They cannot interplay with a group of musicians. They have never practiced phrasing or improv or jamming with others. They don't even play their written and rehearsed material very well live and it's obvious they are punching in a ton and dubbing the shit out of everything. Anyway I don't really care their music sounds gay. Metal Up Your Ass.
>>219631663>when you say play the bluesI mean playing music in the blues genre using blues idioms.
henson looks like elliot rodger cosplaying an instagram whore. it's offputting.
>>219631733Nothing I said was inappropriate.
>>219631586OofAll those hours shredding mathrock bollocks only to get heemed by a basic 12 bar blues
>>219631687Time for bed, gramps.
>>219631640Here's my response: yes I would play circles around Tosin and Tim they cannot improv. They can't even fucking bend on pitch. Get the fuck out of here this is basic shit a 2 year player can do better than them.
>>219631818improv on one of their songs right now
>>219631801Why are you even pitching a fit when you don't even like guitar music or play guitar
>>219631859Okay I pick Whole Lotta Rosie.
>>219631865play the solo from pantera - domination right now
>>219631743lol his neck is freakishly long too he looks like a yaoi character or something
>>219631865Jerking off on a guitar doesn't make for good music. I'd rather listen to Blind Guardian over Yngwie Malmsteen ten times out of ten.
>>219631919done and done
>>219631893>AC/DC lmao this is what the boomer thinks is good music
>>219631944You've never listened to Yngwie Malmsteen you're an NPC who is regurgitating something you heard someone say. No one plays with as much sincerity, emotion, clarity, feel, and passion as Yngwie. He is the absolute best.
>>219632014His music is boring. I really don't care how good of a guitar player you are if your music isn't interesting.
>>219631981Listen to Angus' guitar playing and learn.>Yngwie doesn't play with passion or feeling but tim henson and tosin abasi doha
>>219632064Well you would have to actually listen to it first to make that kind of judgement for yourself.
>>219618632It's "rotten egg air of death". Yes, really. Miggerdeth.
>>219631818>they cannot improvEven if this is true, so what? Do you think improv is the be all end all of music? Neil Peart didn't improvise, did that make him a bad drummer? I'm sorry for using drumming examples but I'm a far better drummer than I am guitarist.
>>219631586Cool video
>>219632107I have, it's okay music. Soloing over stock riffs doesn't really have much appeal for me, no matter how good the soloing is.
>>219631944>erking off on a guitar doesn't make for good musicAnd that's exactly why tim and tosin suck. You heard of people being angry at Yngwie for playing fast. Bach, Vivaldi, and Paganini played fast as fuck too I guess they suck.
>>219613120*blocks your path*I've gotten very lucky with finding deals on various custom shop and old ESP guitars (including Concordes, although pic related isn't my photograph). Sadly, I've never found a good deal on a USA Jackson. I do own an MIJ Doug Aldrich signature Jackson, a Japanese domestic market only model that was basically Itaru Kanno prototyping what would later become Caparison. I think there just aren't a lot of those 80s and 90s American custom shop guitars in Europe. Did any of those companies even take European orders?>>219628914Very jealous of the Soloists and the Surfcaster!
>>219632134Neil Peart could definitely jam out on a 12 bar blues if the situation called for it to be fair, wild to imply he couldn't.
>>219632167I don't even like Polyphia lol.>Bach, Vivaldi and PaganiniI just listened to a few Yngwie songs, I heard approximately 0 counterpoint. It was very compositionally uninteresting compared to classical music.
>>219632134>Neil Peart didn't improviseIt's absolutely coincidental. I have been on that campaign for four or five years. [In the past], my ambition was not a humble one, to try to play with superhuman perfection in the studio and then reproduce that every night. Once I had defined myself as a compositional drummer, I thought, "Well, I want to be an improvisational drummer." I think in the recorded drum parts on this album, you can sense the excitement and danger: "This guy never played that before, and he just barely made it." I'm going to cut myself completely loose this tour; I'd always composed and choreographed a tour solo and then improvised within that framework, and this time, I'm throwing that out.
>>219632207>here's a great musician that didn't improvise>WELL WHAT IF HE DID IMPROVISEcongrats, you missed the pointAnd blues drumming is far easier than blues guitar.
>>219632170Horizon and Mirage... that's fuckin sweet.>>219632227You should stop trying to use words you don't undestand to sound smart. Yngwie uses a shitload of counterpoint harmony. Have a nice day.>>219632207Neil Peart was great at improvising even if he did like to structure things and work within that framework. You're trying to meme but you don't even know what 12 bar means, jackass.
>>219632307In that case Tim has some serious woodshedding to do. but this is way too much discussing tim for a guitar thread.
>>219632340Anon do you even know what counterpoint is? Do you not know what that word means?
>>219632170May I see their sexy bodies?
>>219632237I think this quote is from when Neil was 50 years old lolHis drumming peaked early anyways.
>>219613120why is it that on /tv/ a thread about literally anything can be made, it will reach a bump limit and it won't be deleted by the jannies?
>>219632134Personally I like being able to pick up an instrument and play it. I think a guitar hero should be able to do that.
>>219632686Good for you if you like improv. Don't shit on people who don't.
>>219618632JEJ almost missed this because of the zoomers crying about their fallen guitar queero
>>219632264>>219632340Uh-oh melty
>>219621401Changing it to fucking E and charging more for the other letters is so gay. Is Japan doing that because of the economy or something? Ibanez hasn't shot up in price.
>>219632471Not true druk threads get jannied
>>219632723Shut the fuck up, mother goose. You're really shameless.
>>219632170Neato
>>219632816There's something deeply wrong about a tune o matic on an s style guitar, nothing against hardtails obviously.
>>219632170>I do own an MIJ Doug Aldrich signature Jackson, a Japanese domestic market only model that was basically Itaru Kanno prototyping what would later become Caparison.wicked, is that the green one?
>>219632170>I think there just aren't a lot of those 80s and 90s American custom shop guitars in Europe. Did any of those companies even take European orders?I have no idea if they did from 83-86 but it's possible. Definitely most of them are in the USA. Even later models seem hard to get in Europe.
>>219633013It's so good for the right hand and percussive metal playing though. I just hope it's F-spaced.

>>219633038>wicked, is that the green one?Yeah, I have the green/blue one that's on the bottom right of pic related. They're that color that some people call blue and some call green. I find mine looks a lot more green IRL than the one in the catalog pic/the scan. There were a total of four models. Despite Doug being a relatively obscure player at the time, just having a minor cult following in Japan and being unknown elsewhere, Grover Jackson and Itaru Kanno were both HUGE fans of Doug and built him tons of customs and gave him a signature line.>>219634365That's an ESP. Although you are correct about Gibson.>>219633086There seems to be a disproportionate amount of them in Sweden, Finland, and Italy, although they are still extremely rare.>>219632448I'd rather not due to unironic doxxing concerns lmao. The customs are one-offs and the Aldrich has a sponge finish that's different on every guitar. If you can get off to your fantasies, I'll tell you that I own a 7 string Takada Custom Shop ESP Horizon-I with an extra thicc body I didn't order it and don't have the original order sheet so I'm not sure about the woods that were used, but the guitar is thicker than other Horizon-I's for some reason. It's heavy as shit too so I like to imagine that it has a hidden maple top below the black finish.>>219632816Is that yours!?

>>219636287It's used by plenty of kino artists.
>>219625282These are great. 17" radius fretboard, 25.1" scale. Put a Gotoh 1996t in mine. Super shredder. Luv me early 90s Jacksons too though.

>>219639059Certain models of Harley Benton, Cort and Schecter are great. These days you dont have to go for fender/gibson anymore. Unless you want to treat yourself. Which is fine, but certainly wont make you sound any better.IMO people should spend their times arguing pedals, amps, speakers, modellers and the actual sound. The guitar is just the interface really.
