Why are every characters but Gosling either black, chinese or female
>>
I really liked the production - set design, alien design (ship was a generic piece of streamlined dreck), overall feel of being in space. Goose is not bad as a protag, everything else reeks of the world that does not exist anymore, everything is set to Talmudic principles as EU says, there's no more Mr Ogombo Ngimbwe overseeing the launch, no Russian / Chinese representatives etc. Like new Bigelow movie, this one is set in alternate reality but not in the way the creators think. In that sense it reeks of politicking.

But the thing I dislike the most about these kind of movies is how chopped up the procedural bits are. There is no continuous action, Gosling does a movement, grabs something, flies toward something - cut. Everything has a jittery feel, like the director is afraid time's going to run out.
>>
what you said isn't even remotely true also
>why are
go learn english jeet
>>
>millennial writing less than two minutes in
yeah im turning it off
>>

>what you said isn't even remotely true
Literally every speaking role but Golsing is either black/asian/female
>go learn english
non

I have a feeling that it has something to do with the fact that the white male lead takes up 90% of the screentime.
>>
reflects reality. You know how many h1b1s run the us?
>>
>>219635412
In 2020s when you see a white male as protagonist 99% of the other cast is non-white
>>
The world is just more brown now. Pretty much all anglo countries
>>
>>219635412
The trailers tried to hide it by showing only Gosling being cheeky and sarcastic, but only an idiot wouldn't expect wokeness from any new show or movie.

I liked it, very charming lil movie where me and my minerally buddy saved the world.
>>
Are you guys schizophrenic? The only 2 characters that matter is goose and a rock. Why must we complain about minorities in every film?
>>
>>219636071
That's what they want you to believe
>>
>>219635412
I thought the the earth flashbacks were unnecessary beyond the first. The momentum comes to halt every time the woman who runs the world shows up.
>>
>>219636528
if we dont complain, they will put them more and more. its like with taumeba vs astrophage. if we dont complain, it wouldnt be gosling, it would be queen latifah
>>
>>219635412
Because while males are only about 3% of Earth's population. Did you think you were more significant than that? Silly rabbit.
>>
>>219635412
Because that's how it is in the book, except they replaced the Russians.
>>219638757
Which is a shame, because she was ruthless in the book. Apparently the actress wanted to include the song so they did the stupid "let's humanize her" thinf.
>>
>>219635412
I can't imagine believing in outer space in the year of our lord 2026. Everyone knows NASA and all space exploration is fake now. Current mission is AI and CG slop.
>>
The ending sucked, it should have ended when he decides to go back, and end with the chick playing the vlogs.
They didnt have to wrap up every fucking happy ending in a sappy ass scenes that honestly felt like they did some fucking crowd testing and too many people were sad. it should have been a bitter sweet ending, not the AND EVERYONE LIVES HAPPILY EVER AFTER

hmmm 8.7/10
>>
>>219635412
There is literally no character in this movie but Gosling and his little rock puppet friend. The other humans are so ancillary
>>
There's no way you're this easily triggered
>>
>>219638930
Complain all you want. No studio is going to listen to grief grifters or heir chud puppets.
>>
>>219641479
I thought the same. I don't know if it's better in the book, but it felt like the movie was supposed to end multiple times. They kept setting up a "out of fuel" scenario, but it doesn't matter because Gosling could've always gone to the alien's planet and gotten unlimited fuel anyway.
>>
Goose kino
>>
>>219635412

Its being made for the future.
>>
>>219635412
It's charming, but Gosling acting weird in the beginning was rather unsettling because I thought it was going to be more serious like Interstellar. I never saw the previews.
The main cast members are Gosling, the German foid, and The Rock. Is it really necessary that the side characters are minorities? They did their role being the magical negro and whatnot.
>>
>>219635412
I liked it. It was very Arrival, but better.
The Martian had cringe dialogue, whereas this didn't, so I am glad.
It was way better than that overrated trash Interstellar, too.

>>219635607
>Everything has a jittery feel, like the director is afraid time's going to run out.
It was already 2.5 hours long, and there is a lot to compress into a single movie.

>>219638930
True, don't get complacent.

>>219641479
I think a little mystery could have been cool. Just have him send the probes, turn the ship around, and show the German chick watching the vlogs.
That way, it's left open-ended whether he found Rocky and lived his life on their planet.
>>
>>219636528
I never read the books was it explained why the others besides Goose didn't survive the trip?

What are the other two books about?
>>
>>219648386
he's supposed to have superior genes unironically
that's also why he's chosen to go
>>
>>219641479
>happy ending

He's literally stuck on the rocks planet though?
>>
>>219636041
Ok so it had that one black guy from The Bear and a couple of secondary characters who were barely given screentime. Barely noteworthy
>>
>>219635412
Balance. One Ryan Gosling is worth all those minorities combined
>>
>>219648386
I read the book but I honestly thought it was just luck of the draw. It's a rushed mission with the best tech humanity can muster. It was always a gambit but our best shot.
Maybe I need to go through it again but I thought he just got lucky.
>Easy way to make him alone to raise the stakes
>>
>>219646127
They died before even being able to talk
>>
>>219635607
>But the thing I dislike the most about these kind of movies is how chopped up the procedural bits are. There is no continuous action, Gosling does a movement, grabs something, flies toward something - cut
I liked the editing. I never found it incoherent.
And it was in service of cutting out Weir's more "The Martian" style science diatribes. The film is better for it.
>>
>>219648796

>they both live
>earth is saved
>he is living in a biodome teaching baby rocks
>rocky mentions they are ready to build him a ship to return to earth

It was a shit ending.
>>
>>219649925
They didn't build him a ship they just fixed up the Hail Mary.

Man I love the design of this ship.
>>
>>219648386
They just didn't survive being put into a coma for that long

>>219649792
I miss the funny science stuff, like the reason Rocky has so much fuel is because his species didn't know about time dilation
>>
>>219640464
Since when did anyone listen to NASA?
>>
>>219649925
>Earth is saved
Barely
>It was a shit ending
Not really, they showed how assholes were they, so he can choose if he wants to return to Earth or not.
>>
>>219635412
>Why are every characters but Gosling either black, chinese or female
Safe DEI. They put a white male as the lead but then everyone else is non-white and women.
>>
>movie is good, humor and ethnicities other than white

ITS WOKE! ITS REDDIT! SLOP!

You fucking retards keep spewing the same shit. I'll continue to go to the movies and pay for this shit so they continue to make it. You'll forever seethe
>>
>>219641479
>>219643634
>>219647245
I read the book. The uncertainty of the ending is specifically that he could return to Earth, but he has no clue whether all civilization would have collapsed/nuked itself/etc. and if he would have anything to go back to, as well as him needing to go back into a coma he knows he may very well never wake up from. Add to that the fact that the man didn't have any connections or dependents in his life and the person he was beginning to trust the most betrayed him and forced him into a coma that could have very well killed him.

The super long distance travel between star systems is also an important factor; he had to fly Rocky to his home planet because Rocky's ship was entirely compromised by astrophage, you think he's going to want to fly another series of years just to go back to an Earth that may be an irradiated frozen ball of ice?

Keep in mind that the book never shows any scene of people on earth getting messages from the probes. The audience is just as in the dark about the fate of humanity as Grace.
>>
>>219649111
I understand it's necessary for the movie to happen but honestly... why bother putting them in a coma at all? Just give them access to entertainment, training modules for the science stuff they're expected to do, and they're golden
>>
>>219653625
They had to keep the ship's weight as low as possible in order to maximize fuel storage for the long ass flight. The crew would eat all of the food well before they got anywhere close to Tau Ceti if they weren't in comas being drip fed concentrated nutrients. Also, no crew has ever been stuck in an isolated, cramped space like that for years, and there's a natural worry that it could seriously disturb the mental health of the crew, if they could be awake.

How much of a fucking brainlet are you?
>>
>>219653780
Counterpoint
>66.666% of our crew died on the way there
>>
>>219636035
Every gas station and uber driver
>>
>>219653625
youre super dumb
- considering the speeds, im assuming the g's were dangerously high at all times before they were woken up, which is probably the main reason why they might have been in coma to begin with, i dont know the source material

- locked together in a tights space like that for so many years, the risk of them fighting or having mental health deteriorating is much too high
>>
It's high time we set our difference aside and unite as one so that we can begin to exterminate Jews and Jeets.

Yeah, all those people are either jeetbots or just grifters, don't pay attention to them
Also don't pay attention to people here, I've seen some anons that liked it as well as some that didn't, who gives a shit
>>
>>219648386
iirc the chance of surviving at all was so slim they statistically expected most of them to die in transit.
>>
>>219636528
>Why must we complain about minorities in every film
because depicting the world's top military staff and scientists as 75% black is retarded
>>
>>219641479
>>219643634
>>219653324
In the book
>coma could have killed him
>earth is decades after his departure due to relativity
>earth would undoubtedly be ravaged by ecological catastrophe because they super nuked Antarctica and super solar fried the deserts (kino that was left out in the movie, but they did show frozen earth instead)
>the journey alone would be torturous and coma could kill him like it did other crew
>instead of having a perfect 5 star VR hotel experience Grace suffers from the effects of much higher gravity via rapid aging and arthritis, he has to use a walking stick iirc
I think in the book the ending is quite earned, in the movie it does seem a bit more sudden.
>>
memes aside, was Gosling literally the only white male character in the movie? and he carried it.
>>
>>219648386
The answer is that coma was already survivable by a small number of humans with a certain gene. That's also why they couldn't get a better scientist than grace - the candidate pool was literally in the 1000s if I'm not mistaken. That's why the earth lady drugs him forcibly - and it's why she keeps him in the loop in the first place, because he possesses the coma gene.
The other 2 die because coma for years is still really dangerous.

Modern day /tv/ users are media illiterate and low IQ Muslims and or Jeets. Don’t expect good opinions from any of them. PHM was Kino btw

did they have a spare rocket ready to go?

>>
>>219656499
I don't think there's any white male characters on screen at any point

No, what blew up was an on-site underground lab where the two scientists who were supposed to go were working on the Astrophages.

the most space movie to ever space movie. The only thing it missed was an AI companion as a main character and that's only because it had a rock instead
>>
>>219658181
Maybe. I followed it because the explosion came from a different direction than the rocket (hence why it wasn't in frame for the following shots).
They also gave exposition about it directly afterward.
>>
>>219653324
>The audience is just as in the dark about the fate of humanity as Grace.
Did you miss the part where Rocky tells Grace that Eridian scientists detected that the Sun wasn't dimming anymore so the plan worked?
