It is later implied that Palpatine used The Force (lol) to impregnate ShmiThe entire point of the "prophecy" is that the Jedi were putting too much stock in it without properly understanding it>HE BUILT C3PO WHEN HE WAS A TODDLER!Protocol droids are mass-produced with components being pretty easy to find. Anakin's main job is being a slave for a salvager, identifying and repairing exactly these kinds of things for resale.Anakin is also not a toddler, he's 9 years old. A modern day 9 year old is completely capable of putting together a PC with a small bit of research - a 9 year old genius who's spent his entire life working with robots and putting them together would surely be capable of putting together old protocol droid parts to make a new one.>HE WON A WAR THE FIRST TIME HE FLEW A NABOO STARFIGHTERYeah everyone pointed out this was stupid. The movie still points out that the controls are fairly similar to his pod racer (it does make sense that most spaceships would have similar control interfaces) but even still he mainly relies on autopilot and nearly gets himself killed during the sequence.>MARY SUERey has never been shown to have any piloting experience. We don't even get a throwaway line about using a flight sim. Her only mechanical experience is scavenging parts and selling them - never actually building/repairing anything. She's somehow able to pilot the Millenium Falcon, an unusually-designed ship through extremely difficult terrain, out-fly several tie-fighters, and then use a single shot to kill two of them. Later on, she out-mechanics Han Solo, who has been piloting and repairing the ship for longer than Rey has been alive, despite having never been on the ship before and has no repairing experience. The prequels suck. The sequels are even worse.
>>219636679just to remind you once again that developing a character means that their character comes clear, like they say things and do things that show what they're like. it doesn't mean the character changes. when they say that characters should have development it means things in the movie that show what the character is like. but because there are some really really dumb people who read about movies, there's a chorus of people mindlessly repeating that characters 'should change' 'in movies'. which is not required by anyone or anything actually. likewise a strong character is one that has a lot of consistency in their development. not one who is mentally resilient. but the same thing happened as well online

>>219645077that's called character growth or a character arc. it is one type of story but it is not a flaw when a movie does not have this. it is not a requirement to have it, in the way that is thought by people who have simply seen instances of the words 'lack of character development', interpreted this as a lack of change, and internalized lack of change as a movie failing. tony stark does not grow during the movie iron man and that's part of what was great about it, for example.
>>219647013flat arcs need to be likable. This is basically impossible when you introduce a new flat arc character to a franchise who is automagically better than every other character and immediately/automatically loved by other characters more than previous characters.
>>219647218i am not saying anything about rey, i am saying that if someone makes this criticism, they are saying that rey lacks an arc or lacks growth (true!). i am just letting everyone know that the words 'lacks development' means something else.
>>219647013A flat arc works when the character inspires change in others. For example, Goku is a prime example of a flat character arc. He does not change once, from all the way at the beginning of Dragon Ball, to the very end of Dragon Ball Super. However, what Goku does is use his character to change others - he turns villains into companions. Krillian, Tien, Piccolo, Vegeta, the Androids, Buu, Beerus and Whis, Hit, Fireza, etc.Rey has no internal character arc or external character arc, not in the first movie, at least. You could argue she influences Kylo.Tony Stark does have an arc, he goes from selling weapons to terrorists and philosophically defending it, to shutting down manufacturing and actually fighting the terrorists himself.
>>219636679Daisy Ridley is charismatic as hell.
>>219637278>In another episode of TNGThat was the movie with Tom Hardy, actually. The TV series trusted your intelligence to understand that a boy or a young man with hair could be Captain Picard when he was young. The movie decided dumb popcorn eaters wouldn't get it unless he was bald.

>>219643287All of that is shit. The prequels were garbage. The sequels were also garbage, but in different ways. No one is the hero here. This may be conceivably better on some ideological level than the society-manipulating LGBQTT(@WEIWM!+_+ boardroom disasters that were the sequels, but it doesn't make them watchable films.>heroes on BOTH sides
>>219643287this only happened in your head
I don't believe Daisy or whatever her character's name was, I don't remember/give a shit, was a "mary sue". She WAS flat, bland, boring, and did nothing to really earn audience empathy or exultation in her victories. She was not offensive (in the first movie, i didn't watch the other two turds), but she wasn't very interesting either. Ironically the black guy was the most interesting character in the movie, even if I hated having to look at his weird nostril flaring gorilla face. I think he did a pretty good job in the role though, dumbass fish out of water stormtrooper trying to be something less shitty in life.
>>219644371Anakin also inherently has more leeway to be "perfect" compared to Rey because we know from the getgo that he's going to completely fail, get corrupted by Palpatine, and need to be rescued from himself by Luke after being the bad guy for three (and a half) movies. Rey is perfect from start to finish.
>>219643218>it is unfair she gets the backlash just for being the actor for the character. It is not the actors who are at fault for their lines, characters, and the plot of the movie. It is the directors and writers. The characters just say, do and act how they are told to.But she so vehemently defends the shitty characterization underlie her complicity with the writing. Look at Harrison Ford who fucking hates playing Han Solo aside from the big paycheck, so there's nothing stopping Ridley from saying "yeah they probably could've written her better, but I didn't have much say". But she doesn't, because she does and says what she's told by gisnep's legal team or else she'll be blacklisted from starring in mediocre dramas like "Sometimes I Think About Dying".
>>219648863They dropped the ball so hard with Finn, it's unreal. His actor turned out to be a psychotic hotep, but if they had a single director to plot out the entire trilogy then they could've done so much with a deserter of the New Order teaming up with the New Republic to prevent them from destabilizing the peace the Skywalkers had brought about.
>>219653080I wanted to see some sort of character conflict. Like he spent his whole life with the First Order, maybe have him struggle with years of propaganda to understand what the right thing to do is, or hesitate killing his brothers in arms.So many potential internal conflicts that could have occurred.Instead, he switched sides in the first ten minute, and was a perfect good guy for the rest of the trilogy.

>>219654362>Yeah this was pretty engrious and insulting. Especially the Naboo starfighter bit.Not really, you fucking retard.a 10 year old attaching scavenged parts on to a prebuild droid is plausible. It's not as if he invented the droid. He already had piloting experience from the podraces. However that was barely even a factor in the naboo battle. The ship was on auto pilot until r2 managed to turn it off. At which point anakin tried spinning, because that's a good trick and then promptly crash-lands in the trade federation ship hanger. Then while pushing random buttons accidentally shoots proton torpedoes into the main reactor. Nothing he did in that battle required any skills.

>>219648863I do actually believe that the intended from the start that she be Sheev's granddaughter, and that this was the reason for her exceptional talent. But they made the mistake of nobody drawing attention to the fact that she was incredibly powerful, so she came across as a Mary Sue.This is basically the same twist as KotOR 1, but at least there all the characters are astonished, with misgivings, at how quickly you are picking up skills as a Jedi.
