I bet you felt smart typing that out

Every generation that gets old thinks "man shit has gotten so bad" when shit was always bad also this principle will not apply moving forward because western societies have always been blocked from the 3rd world so now kids by default will be born into shit. This movie will make no sense to a person watching it 100 years from now

Movie plot: "Shit happens"

Dream meaning: A childlike feeling of security from shit happening. Then he wakes up, because that feeling isn't true. Shit unfortunately just happens in the adult world, and this gets harder to deny as you age. No country for old men.

My take away is that you can be a hot shit super soldier assassin but you are one bad RNG roll away from a soccer mom in a car ruining your life

a major reason it doesn't make too much sense in the film is because in the book, he is the narrator basically

and he is constantly comparing himself to his father who in his eyes could do no wrong. but he fought in WWII and watched all his squadmates get blown the fuck up by German mortar fire and he couldn't do anything to save them, so he feels like his father could have saved them some way, and this transfers onto his following Moss and trying to save him in some way

the dream is him fantasizing about his father having some hidden knowledge, the fire in the horn, that can help him save all those around him, but he's just a bit too far ahead to get it. then his uncle bitch slaps him with the story about grandaddy getting shot dead on the porch which has a double meaning: the first, that random acts of unconscionable violence are nothing new in America, and two, that even his forbears that he imagines were wiser and more capable than him could still get gunned down and die like a bitch when he was the real survivor

Almost kind of close. Here's the poem McCarthy took the title from:

I'm always amazed at how stupid and subliterate you people are. Just baffingly fucking dumb monkeys.
