They make different animation styles for characters. They also love to write "realistic" dialogue too, I can see that being annoying as time goes on. Burn out is to be expected. I imagine the only way to go on would be to abandon the premise like how Aqua Teen dropped the detective thing and fully embrace being nonsense, though Aqua Teen did that right in season 1.
