It's only 89 minutes long, and I found it very funny. Just get over the first 20 minutes or so and wait until the first death occurs. There's a setup of the obvious evil rednecks plus horny teenagers in the woods trope, but it turns out to be very different.

the two guys are very funny and hilarious. extremely good chemistry. amazing back and forth.
the college assholes are dumb but funny.

the movie makes so many jokes about slasher tropes, turns slasher clicked on its head, very smart humor.

An interesting theory for sure but there's one major hole in it pun not intended: Regan clearly loses her virginity to the cross of Jesus Christ that she masturbates with while possessed which happens after Burke is already dead so he can't have raped her at the party.

Ok so The Fog 2005 isn't a good film, but I'd say it was at least at it's best when the original was, ie. comfy shots of people driving around, or in a lighthouse, or on a boat with some ominous mystery music.
The "00s killfest" clashed with that though. You could probably improve this by editing 20m out of it.

>>
>>219706546
I was surprised it wasn't as terrible as people made it out to be. It sucks that it had to go the whole "men are, like, so evil and stuff" route, because otherwise I think it'd be considered an underrated gem.
>>
>>219706678

>>219706615
Slow? A little bit but the atmosphere was nice, and the creatures were interesting enough
>>
>>219706614
Either horror movies or theaters in general have been doing worse and just decided to stop carrying a lot of stuff. There’s been like 10 theatrical horror movies so far this year that my local theater simply didn't carry. Faces of Death and Matthew Nichols being 2 of them. Undertone was another. The amount of theaters these films have been reported to release in reflects this as more of a national thing and not exclusively my issue. At the point I have to drive an hour or wait a week for a cam, then I just wait.
>>
>>219707962
Most movies are now on a limited release schedule before getting pimped out on a streaming platform. Welcome to the new normal until theaters die out completely.

I just watched "The Unnamable" (1988). It's loosely based on an H.P. Lovecraft short story. I can't recommend it. There's just not enough material for the 90 minute runtime, and the echo effect on the soundtrack (on e v e r y t h i n g except for the dialogue) gets on your nerves SO MUCH!
It might have been OK as a 25 minute segment in an anthology and without the constant echo.
>>
What's the next horror trend going to be now that the ari aster stuff is kind of over now?
I guess technically it's going to be fucking analog horror, liminel space internet bullshit, but that's only going to be for a year or 2 max before burning out completely when Backrooms 2 is rushed out and bombs after the first one succeeds.
>>
>>219717549
Trauma horror is still going strong somehow. PD horror is going strong, but will never be mainstream. I thought AI horror would be ramping up by now, but I guess not.
>>
Now I watched "The Unnamable 2" (1993). This one felt like a real movie: This time they had money for a real script that's more than 3 pages long, for sets where the cardboard walls don't shake when you open a door, for special effects, and even for known actors (David Warner and John Rhys-Davis are in it). Unfortunately you have to have seen this stinker >>219715374
first to have a context and to know what the characters are talking about.

This was pretty much what I'd thought it'd be. It's nonsense and not as good as Pinocchio, but I still liked it because you can really sense the cyberpunk elements in it. At times like picrel it reminded me of FFVII, with all the evil shady businessmen, mad scientists and industrial buildings.

Just finished. Outstanding sleaze. Released 1990 but feels like a 70s flick. All girl softball team getting hunted in the woods by horny rednecks. I mean c'mon. That's about as perfect a setup as God's gonna grant you. Plenty of t&a. The fire is lacking but the body count is high. Really makes you feel like anybody can die at any moment. Not so much a horror and more of a rape-revenge, but hot damn I loved it anyway.

Just watched Rabisu: Curse Of The Demon. Holy fuck this was bad. Clearly had a bigger budget than the vast majority of found footage slop out there, but completely lacked creativity. Not a single ounce of dread or a sense of uneasiness. Just one ghost hunter getting "possessed" after the other. Can't recommend this one, not even for this slut in the webm.

Right now you can make a horror version of The Lost World. You can make horror version of Sherlock Holmes. You can even make a horror version of King Kong, as long as you don't use things that aren't in the novelization.

of the /hor/ movies I saw as a child with my father, there is only one that has eluded me, maybe you can help? From what I remember, starting with the intro and recounting shots I remember up to the finale:
The opening sequence is yellow-tinted, slow-crawling camera through a rather bare suburban home, eventually making it's way to a protagonist girl in the shower. NEXT! Basically everyone has been turned into demonic minions and are trying to get the girl, who finds help. There's a car chase. NEXT! To the finale. Attic or something of a church. The Girl is face to face with the Boss... it almost seems like everything will work out somehow, when suddenly a minion SMASHES through the stained glass window behind The Girl and grabs her, roll credits (thank you for your time/help in this matter)
>>
>>219753665
One of the known horror movie tropes is that the victim is always running while the killer or monster takes his time, but a few minutes later the victim is caught anyway.

>You can even make a horror version of King Kong
The original King Kong was already a horror movie. Forget the remakes and the new Monsterverse movies for a second here and also consider the time period when the film was made. It may seem tame today but it wasn't back then.

Just finished. Breathtakingly generic, I kinda loved it, lol. Bird Fitcher is the stupidest name for a final girl ever. I love Mitch Pileggi and he gets the only cool death in the movie.. Grace Zabriskie is second billed and is in it for two minutes. Madeline Petsch does the Drew Barrymore intro. Super typical teen horror, I liked it. Same plot as a goosebumps book, lmao

Just finished. Listed as horror on Letterboxd, but it isn't at all. Dark comedy with a little violence. Crazed fan kidnaps popstar to marry her, and that's about it. Nothing much happens in the movie. I think you're supposed to be taken in by the character personalities and dialogue so there isn't much story, but that other stuff just isn't very strong. Good cast and performances all around, and the direction is stylish, but there doesn't seem to be any point.

>mfw
So I just finished "The Seventh Sign". In 1988, the world was going to end in the year 2000, which was why this movie was tagged as "horror". Through the movie the "signs" from the book of Revelations (Greek: Apocalypse) happen, and the 7th sign just before the final judgement is the hall of souls will be empty, so a baby will be born dead without a soul. This is why Demi Moore goes through this movie alternatingly meddling in the business of Jesus (Jürgen Prochnow), a rabbi, a Thora student, an execution etc and in the other half she keeps screaming about "my baby, my baby!". On IMDb this movie got a 5.8/10, but I admit it got on my nerves more than once.
