It's still good, but there will be points where the tonal shift to a comedy focus is pretty grating. I'd still take this over most modern movies though, even in an alternate timeline where good movies still came out this would be a 7 or 8 out of 10. It's really not bad at all, it's just not great.
It's very good and a lot of fun, of course /tv/ contrarians will shit on it.

If I went in thinking its a wholesome family movie then I wouldnt have had an issue. But it felt like all the cool sci-fi bits were just waved away so you could have the next quip. The alien is also super lame because its essentially just another human in its psychology and language and all. Arrival was fun because the aliens were indeed alien af. You could make phm with an American Astronaut meeting a Russian Astronaut next to the planet figuring out why it isnt dying and nothing would change about the essence of the plot whatsoever. The only point of the alien being an alien is that Grace does the gay extra ending nobody needed at 2 hours in. I hated the movie but probably because I didnt expect it to be that shallow.Yes this is a copypaste from the other thread.
