With hindsight, killing off Ned and Robert was barely excusable, but the Red Wedding was stupid; certainly the thing that really sent the story flying off the rails more than anything else. Brilliant, shocking, but story-ruining. In a sense, the tale ended there. It was the moment where George completely betrayed his original intent to create a fascinating drama like the Wars of the Roses.
