Did they really need to go to helms deep? I feel like even women and children could make haste for a single day to outpace fully heavy armored Uruks given the lead they had, at least long enough for Gandalf to catch up with reinforcements.

Why wasn't Edoras better defended? It's on a giant fucking hill that shit should be a defender's wet dream. Throw some stone walls around the fucker and that's an impenetrable fortress. Better than cornering yourself inside an unescapable gorge.

Also that culvert at Helm's Deep is laughably bad. Even without explosives that grate could have been easily cut away and it was damn near the same width of the main gate. That's an attacker's wet dream and it's astonishing that the defenders didn't even think about it despite it being a giant gaping hole in the front and center of their defensive wall.
