Why aren't there more movies set here?
>>219740786too hard to light the sets down there
2deep
Swimming is racist
>>219740786Because there's no people down there.
>>219740786Weird how there aren't more underwater horror movies. You only need small sets. Can play with claustrophobia and thalassophobia.low lighting. Can't escape easily.
>>219741017What are taking about bro, just grab an oxygen tank and swim up.
>>219740987do you have any proof for your audacious claims?
>>219740870this
>>219740786Why doesn't elongupta muskumar just make a settlement in the ocean instead of Mars
>>219741017I was gonna watch deep blue seea but the opening dialogue was so funny I shit my pants and the 4k rip was extremely dark
>>219740786The blockades probably.
>>219741160Vibes
>>219740786
>>219741075You know how Stockton Rush imploded his submarine? Yeah, this is WAY deeper than that. They didn't make it down to the Titanic and that's only a third of the way down to the bottom of the chart. You'd be smushed easily.
>>219742550anon...he was obviously making a funny.
>>219742686Nope. There are WAY too many on this site that believe that shit wholeheartedly. Fuckers on here believe Earth is flat, space is fake, covid is a hoax, Trump is Jesus reincarnated. They definitely believe water is light as a feather and you just swim up and down no problem.
pretty sure that one movie about the water people mentions it.
that's a lot of marinara
>>219742411Full of those shutterstock creatures, scary stuff
>>219742868The joke sucked but you sound rather retarded and reddit. What kind of moron doesn't think covid was a hoax?
>>219742411>9 milesGet back to me when you get to Europa's 58.
>>219741204Kek
>>219740786Pretty sure there’s nothing even down there, too deep for even krakens and lightbulb fish boys
>>219740786The Abyss
>>219740786>Nature documentary>Deep sea segment comes onKino time.
>>219743749Nope. There’s actually shit down there.
>>219743625That creeps me right the fuck out.
>>219743790Love that fucking movie.
it wasn't impossible to build rapture at the bottom of the ocean it was impossible to build it anywhere else
>>219740786They dropped Megatron in there.
>>2197408704u
>>219743749there is stuff, just fairly mundane stuff (at least in relative terms for normalfags)
Kstew made an underwater movie and it was pretty good
>>219742411What the fuck is wrong with James Cameron that made him want to go to to this empty, dark shithole in a tin can?
>>219744249Faustian spirit. It was pure kino, too. >>219744231It was pretty decent, honestly, but I was hoping it would lean harder into the outright supernatural.
>>219740786Does the Abyss count? Its one of the more memorable Deep Sea movies, and focuses on the dangers of the deep water. As for why not the Marianas specifically, I actually think its a combination of the lack of autism and the actual cost of going there or simulating it. >>219741017 while you have a good point, note how many people don't have the kind of autism about water that someone like Cameron does.
>>219742411plane?
>>219744879It’s a big trench.
>>21974487930,000 feet, the altitude commercial planes typically fly at
>>219744456>I was hoping it would lean harder into the outright supernatural.Love him or hate him, this is what I appreciate the most about Eggers.
>>219745044Me too.
.
>>219743946Now, imagine 750,000 tons of pressure per sq inch
>>219741017>Weird how there aren't more underwater horror movies.>You only need small sets.>Can play with claustrophobia and thalassophobia.>low lighting.>Can't escape easily.Traditional film cameras were problematic on “small sets” because you need to keep removing parts of the set to get different angles of the same space. Gimbaled sets such as those used for submarine movies are likely not actually cheap to build. Plumbing sets is also apparently a pain, which is the reason ER used to not show the doctors washing their hands frequently. Small spaces also limit the potential for action sequences. Any “underwater film” also has to show the actors going under water during multiple scenes in most cases. This is inherently dangerous, and requires multiple safety divers and medical staff members, per union rules. During filming for “The Abyss”, Ed Harris almost drowned. Filming around or under water also tends to make the crew wet and unhappy.
>>219745368Holy shit.
>>219741160mermaids aren't real
>>219745234murmaider murmaider murmaider murmaider
>>219742868Nigger it is blatantly obvious the other poster is fucking around. You legitimately have autism.
>>219743892What do they eat?
>>219747183Shows rarely show people washing hands because it's really loud
>>219740786more like the Ariana stench
>>219740786The setting is extremely limiting. The film would have to take place in a tiny-ass submarine (room for a max of two people seated side by side, though most manned missions down there were solo...smaller craft retain structural integrity easier) and it's not like there's a ton of exciting shit down there unless you're a science nerd. It's just dark. Even if you invent some sort of monster or something, the people are still stuck in the submarine. They can't get out and swim around. It's a challenging environment to write for and in the end, what's the payoff? Any story that could be told down there could likely be told better elsewhere.
>>219742686>>219742868>There are WAY too many on this site that believe that shit wholeheartedlyThis. I remember during the Stockton Rush thing when people still thought they were trapped down there, anons were earnestly asking if they were suck on something why someone couldn't just swim out for a second and unstick them. Some others wondered why they didn't just cut their losses and swim back up to the surface. Education and facts have been politicized by nefarious retards and now we have gigantic groups of people who will not believe scientifically proven facts unless they themselves have experienced it or seen it for themselves.
>>219743749>lightbulb fish boysIf you're specifically talking about anglerfish, the ones with lightbulbs are actually female. The males are tiny and once they find a female to mate with, their bodies just kind of melt into her skin and they become an attached pair of gonads. She basically disintegrates everything but the parts that can help her mate and takes it with her.
>>219744879You don't remember MH370? It flew into a black hole which wormhole'd it down there. Crazy stuff.
>>219741017I want a zombie movie that takes place in a submarine goddamnit
>>219742868Yea if only stuff could float in water, it would make things way easier.
>>219740786too far away
>>219747653The dead stuff floating down from above. The pressure basically disintegrates it into what they call “marine snow.” And the souls of the drowned.
>>219742411wow! it's almost as deep as my hatred of jannies

>>219742411> no Saddam Hussain edit
>>219740786did you know this was fucking real they actually have pink goo you can breathe and they dunked a live rat in it for this fucking scenepeta was pissed
>>219751203Like he said, we all breathe fluid for the first nine months of our lives. It's not some amazingly weird concept and it doesn't hurt the rat nor us. Peta are retards.
>>219751194I was looking for him too lmao
>>219752764>Babies do not breathe in the same way that people do after birth; instead, they receive oxygen through the umbilical cord, which is connected to the placenta.>The umbilical cord and placenta work together to transfer oxygen and nutrients from the parent’s blood to the baby’s blood, while also removing waste products.>Although a baby’s lungs develop in the womb and they practice breathing by taking in amniotic fluid, the lungs are not used for oxygen transfer until after birth.I believe it requires a ventilator as our lungs aren't strong enough to deal with liquid breathing. There is also the cough reflex from liquid entering the airways.
>>219741017Watch shit like The Meg 2 and you quickly understand. A lot of successful writers are fucking retards.
>>219741017As shown with Subnautica, a horror with this premise works 1000x better as a game. It needs to be interactive to actually be scary. It's You having to face the enormous underwater monster, not passively sit and watch someone else while calling them an idiot. And anything involving water does get expensive. It usually just comes down to the same things too: implosions, running out of air, drowning, hypothermia. Those are scary but it gets tiring seeing them too repetitively.
>>219740786Because there's noting interesting there, fellow land dweller.
>>219744879It's a plane of reference.
>>219740786Because nothings there. Why the fuck would there be, it stops at a certain point. Set one in a place where they dont know how deep it goes. U paki poof
>>219753704A reference bane?
>>219752764>it doesn't hurt the ratThe rat almost died and Cameron himself performed CPR on it to avoid having to lose the ASPCA stamp of approval.
>>219740786Watch abyssThe filming is brutal and expensive for a result a lot of people don't end up appreciating Today they could make decent slop with cgi and it would be well received, underwater is okay
>>219754034It was a big flight.
>>219754253Yeah, it's amazing the sheer amount of effort, money and time it took to get some of those scenes. Then people watch and are like "meh, this is boring" and don't even attempt to appreciate it. Like they think you just snap your fingers and movie scenes just appear out of thin air.
It's just too deep for modern Hollywood.
>>219740786I guess you don't need to make a movie about it when it already has real creatures that are scarier than the fake ones would be.
>>219741017markipliers movIe???
>>219755580That was an underblood movie and it was really dumb
>>219748259anon, at least most of them were clearly taking the piss
>>219742411What's a commercial airliner doing down there?
>>219740786There'd be too much PRESSURE to make a great film!
>>219744879Uh, you don't get to bring divers.
>>219749303Cave allegory missing "chat, is this true?"

>>219744879Look up next time you see a commercial jet fly overhead, now add 1500 ft over that. Congrats, you are seeing what it would look like looking up from the lowest point of Challenger Deep. Fun fact! It’s the shallowest of mega canyons in the system.
>>219761514But how do the planes survive such high pressures without crushing?

>>219741017The 80s and 90s had some good ones, but the 2010s is when you started getting the slop movies like Pirahna 3D and Ghost Shark and now that's how people view ocean horror movies.
