Nah, if something was even good but not 'great' at the time, it's completely forgotten. There's movies like Allan Quartermain, Jewel of the Nile, and Remo that I absolutely loved when I was 9, but never thought of since and have never seen a post about here. If you are under 40 you are probably going to even ask if these are real movies. The movies that I actually saw at the cinema in the 90s (Casper, Free Willy) I just instantly forgot and so did most people

I can't imagine the kind of soulless person who would write such a statement.

Judging a film when you're 9 is pure because you have no agenda. If you end up still rating that film years later it could just be its a really good film that stands up to repeat viewings. But even if its lame and you end up in the frame of mind you want to see enjoy it again, whats wrong with that?

Sometimes we want to feel something in our depressing lives that makes us remember how we used to feel. What kind of a person is so cynical that they cannot go back and enjoy something from their past?

And Citizen Kane is shit.
>>
>>219747598
I have seen Citizen Kane. Holds up pretty well, actually. I like how almost every shot does something visually interesting. It's a good movie. Not the best movie ever made and not even really the best Orson Welles movie.

There literally aren't that many mediocre 90's family movies people talk about (and even good ones like the Flintstones movie are borderline forgotten). You're thinking of 80's movies. If you want to talk about 90's shit that people overrate, it's sitcoms like Friends.

Also, congratulations on graduating highschool.
>>
>>219749788
Xenogears issues mostly stem from the production getting gutted partway through. They had to streamline and cut a shitload of disc 2 content because of that.

It's not technically a family movie but I'm going to say it anyway because of how unbelievably grossly overrated it's become. Shawshank. That’s mostly zoomers, and that’s primarily a result of a few millennials using the sequels being shit to spark a revisionist movement which they joined to fit in, not because they think they’re actually good. That would require independent thought that zoomers lack.
>>
>>219745536
This is objectively the best answer.
>>
>>219749688
I guarantee you the people that praise the trilogy as the greatest movies of all time are the ones who only, and I repeat ONLY, watch blockbuster movies. They are entirely dictated by FOMO, and are casual movie goers and do not possess a serious love for film.
They're good movies that are impressive on a technical level, but it's utter ignorance and dishonesty to say they are among the greatest.

Fuck, the same can be said for the book too. It's a decent book, but better books have been written.
>>
>>219747040
It's most certainly not bad, but it's not the 11/10 people make it out to be, it's just a very competently made movie that tackles the hero's journey effectively complemented by a killer soundtrack, great visuals and an appealing cast of characters. A jack of all trades movie if you will.

I watched this recently (because I lost a bet)
It's very mediocre. The only good bits are orangutan antics which gets old after about 10 minutes anyway. The Peewee cameo helps a little I guess, but everything else is painfully generic and the structure of the story is sloppy and mostly unexplored. I had seen it as a kid too and my opinion of it wasn't much better back then either.
3/10 for me. Gave it an extra point because they actually made an orangutan smoke a cigarette.

The first Beethoven was itself pretty "edgy" as far as kid movies go, considering the vet was abducting dogs to test ammunition on them (and if memory serves, was himself taken out by getting jabbed full of needles).
Regardless, yeah, I came here to say Beethoven. It is a fun movie though that still has enough humor even for adults, definitely a case where it is truly a family movie, where even adults will get enjoyment from it (and kids who watch it again as adults will have a newfound appreciation for why George was 100% justified in not wanting to take on a huge messy burden)

No. I watch an episode every now and then. It's underrated. It's a continuous story with ongoing arcs and character plotlines. It's not just an "every episode is a wacky situation resolved in 22 minutes." I was honestly expecting it would've aged poorly or seemed childish. I was surprised.

But I understand the stigma because
>SPEED, THAT STRANGE MAN WILL CRASH YOU UP!
>OH?!

I'd compare it to a soap opera. It's a definite style, and if you don't like the style, that's understandable. But it's absolutely artistic and you can see the effort.
