I wish we had gotten more of an idea of what the Jedi """Knight""" is supposed to look like, rather than the boring shaolin monks of the prequels.

Tales of the Jedi is my visual dictionary for Star Wars, but I can't ignore that a double-bladed saber with a short hilt is just a bad weapon. At least Maul's saber hilt is long enough for extra leverage.

Years hearing people hype up Ulic and Exar Kun only for them to be legit unbelievably fucking retarded and deserve everything they get and more when you actually read Tales of the Jedi. Then you read the prequel issues and the same is true for Naga Sadow. They don't even rule for a bit or anything, just immediately crash and burn. Godawful stories. Only Redemption is remotely good.

It's deeply moronic how badly Disney has dropped the ball with Star Wars. EU material could've been their branching out and competing with Dune (which is tonally surprisingly similar), but they went for pushing out loads of horseshit instead. Let's hope Maul is an indicator of where things are headed rather than a lucky accident.

I think Andor and the Plagueis novel may be the only times a good Star Wars story was told well. Everything else has required you take the ideas of the story out of their context, and stick around for visuals. The Sith, Exar-kun, Revan, Bane, Qui-Gon, Anakin, and Luke have always been better as wiki articles and your imagination than the stories about them.

Plagueis is awesome, but I don't get the enthusiasm for Andor. And I completely disagree with your assessment of Anakin's and Luke's story. The only weak part in either of the trilogies is their second movie. Phantom Menace, Revenge of the Sith, A New Hope, and Return of the Jedi all deliver good story well told.

Bro your Thrawn trilogy?

The ancient aesthetics mixed with sci-fi are god tier though and I'll never not be mad KOTOR ditched them despite taking place like 50 years after Exar Kun.

For Anakin, I felt the Clone Wars microseries was his best story. Episode I and II Anakin didn't give him the agency or character to be who he needed to be, and we all probably agree on the Clone Wars show. Anakin is, to me, better as a plot piece than a character. He is a condemnation of the state of the Republic. He only needs to get that across, he doesn't need to do anything but try to break free. For Luke, I'm thinking of his post-Return stuff. The first trilogy did him well, but a lot of his character is developed in how he rebuilds the order. The trilogy is him learning the lessons he needs to learn, and the EU is him acting on those lessons. Those stories aren't necessarily good, but the way he restored the Jedi by basically stripping away everything but the Light is interesting.

Anakin's story is about parental issues: Having been taken away from his mother, who raised him semi-alone (Watto) in the first place, and then being denied the father figure that would've given him proper, strict attention (Qui-Gon), replacing the mother with an older wife, and repeating his outburst over the loss of the mother with the mother-wife seemingly on the line. What makes Anakin so vulnerable to his traumata is a lack of virtue, i.e., humility and patience. Everything else is pretty much secondary.

Old Republic and Legacy are both way cooler than Rebels vs Empire slop.

Dark Troopers, Vader, and Emperor's Royal Guard are pretty kino. Other than that, GCW might be the shittest era.

RIght? Seems like we are always in the wrong era, it's either peace or just them being generals in the Clone Wars. I want to see then being space cops or whatever they did instead of all this shit Disney has being doing. I think only Old Republic and the comics gave us a glimpsy of that.

Indeed. The books do sound like someone attempting to make light novels from said articles, Darth Bane trilogy may be the best example of that. It's not a real story, it's a checklist of his deeds.
