Why have film-watching devices never escaped mere practicality? Why has there never been an aesthetically pleasing VCR or DVD player?
>>219758515Because you're looking at the TV rather than the device
>>219758515Like these don't look cool and do more for a home (if well situated) than their absence does in the age of streaming.
>>219760726>these don't look coolModern man is truly retarded.
>>219758515laserdiscs are very aesthetically pleasing and they're around the quality of DVD with s-video.
>>219758515>Why has there never been an aesthetically pleasing VCR or DVD player?
>>219760726Those are audio components. OP's point was that there were never VCR or DVD units that looked as good as these.
>>219761343There were plenty. I remember circuit city had every one you could want and there was something for pretty much everybody. Not really unnecessarily bulky like this unless you wanted a DVD changing function or some shit.
>>219760726This. It was all about effective use. Like with anything relating to interior decorating. Modern homes are too minimalist for my taste, but that's what happens when everyone is poor and accessories all fit into one unobtrusive box in the corner.
>>219758654/threadI don't know why there are any other replies. When the whole point of a device is for you to look at something else it's hooked up to, why should extra thought and effort go into it's design?
>>219758515They update the designs every decade or so, but they target neutral and low profile to avoid clashing and make them easy to hide or ignore. Some of it is just a lack of care and no perceived market for designer living room electronics.
