Why did Minus One actually succeed?
Because at its core, it wasn't some goofy kaiju battle fantasy, it was a straight-up war movie.
Godzilla was literally just a plot device.
The actual focus of the story was on the pain of war, PTSD, the resilience of the human spirit, and found family.
But here's the thing: you can basically only pull that theme off once.
If they do the exact same thing for the sequel, the audience is just gonna be like, "This again?" So the creators are forced to pivot.
The problem is, given the nature of the Godzilla IP, your options for a pivot are extremely limited.
Throwing in another monster is the obvious choice, but the second you do that, it inevitably devolves into a generic monster-bashing fantasy.
It completely waters down the heavy messages about human sin and the tragedy of war that the original '54 and Minus One treated with such respect.
And honestly? You can already feel that exact cheap vibe from the Minus Zero trailer.
The Minus universe was a one-and-done concept.
They really should have just left it alone and ended it there.

You have no idea what the script is retard, so why make assumptions already from a 7 second trailer? Ah because you're a seething Annofag. Shin 2? Never ever

I think the movie could be good even though I don't know if adding another monster is really the best way to go about this. I do like the idea of bringing Godzilla to America, I think that could bring a lot of interesting thematic elements to the film.

Perfectly said. I agree on all points.

The statue of liberty had a whole lot more of a bronze color in the 1930s and only acquired that blue-greenish patina in the past 50 years

>>219764620
Minus One is specifically the story of Shikishima and Noriko and the trials they face as they try to survive Godzilla's wrath. As long as they're still treated with respect and this doesn't turn into generic sci-fi action slop, this movie will be fine.

The new one will be about how mutts have caused great harm to Yamato race. Glorious nippon audience will dance with joy upon seeing corpses of anglo saxon barbarians

GMK has the themes you speak of as well as fun monster action, and it’s a fan favorite as well as the favorite of -1’s director. of course its a lot less dramatic than -1 but theres no reason simply adding more monsters cant work as a serious drama if Godzilla already works as a serious drama.

You’re essentially preordering being pissy about this movie even though all we’ve gotten is a teaser.

By all means, don’t watch it. You won’t be missed.

A friendly reminder that everything that you love about Japan is a byproduct of almost a century of American occupation.

The scene in the trailer with the flying, blue-glowing debris looks so fucking bad. Minus One was overrated slop, this looks like straight trash.
>>
>>219764620
>Why did Minus One actually succeed?
It really didn't, it did worse than Shin Godzilla which was much less mainstream... No idea why Minus One was shilled so much, it's really bad.

>>219770363
Shin only did better in Japan. Minus One made much more money overall.

Only thing I didn't like about the trailer, going too far into scifi nonsense territory and bringing back terrible memories of wingard's take.

I did get a peek at the script, basically gojira is a good guy now and goes to America to attend American school. He gets an American gf and they get married setting up the threequel where he and her move back to Japan

>>219765649
It could also just be a smaller replica, plenty of those exist, maybe less so at the time the movie is set

NTA but he's right, none of the themes of TRVE Godzilla apply to Americans because they never got humiliated and destroyed by a higher power like Japan was, so Godzilla going to America and getting destroyed by the Americans (the higher power) just defeats the whole point.

>First one was just IMPERIAL JAPAN: GOOD
The first one was literally about how much Japan sucks and treats its own people/soldiers like shit.

There has been THIRTY-NINE (39) attempts at making a Slopzilla film that isn't shit, and all THIRTY-NINE (39) attempts failed. Even the dumbest breed of dog has good enough pattern recognition to not get fooled by the same trick THIRTY-NINE (39) times in a row. Only paid shills will claim otherwise.

???
Godzilla is notoriously ranged, it pivoted from a horror-tragedy film about the consequences of a nuclear holocaust to a satirical comedy about the growing commercialization of Japan in literally 2 movies (if you don't count Rodan and Mothra, which hadn't been folded into the series yet.)
