Alien: Resurrection is what was then considered a bad and pointless sequel done entirely to please corporate overlords and everyone from creative side of things was in it to collect hefty paycheck.It was considered a bad thing in cultural and every other sense, but it is better what we get now most of the time when it comes to sequels, reboots and prequels.

Each bringing a very distinct vision. In that regard, Alien Resurrection is perfectly in line with the others and the biggest disappointment is the one by Fincher.We switched to the wrong timeline when we got Prometheus instead of Alien 5 by Neill Blomkamp

Instead we get more and more prequel reboot slops. For some reason, they really don't like the idea that Alien was the first time the xenomorph was ever seen and desperately want to say it was found a hundred times before that, defeating the entire purpose of Alien.
