Burt was also having psychotic episodes and I genuinely thought the guy was going to break down after Frank. But there is cause to suspect that Burt was way more aware of stuff than he let on at the time and simply played up what he was feeling in some situations.So tl;dr, yeah, this was the darkest moment in FT history. It's especially fucked up because the wiggers thought this was going to make a great finale. Evil stuff.
