Why do people obsess so much over this speech? Don't get me wrong, I like it, it's good, and Rutger Haur delivers it well, but people treat it like it's fucking Shakespeare or the most beautiful speech in cinema or something. I just don't get it.

It's not the speech itself. It's the context, cinematography and music. Someone didn't read Lex Kuleshov.

Lesson one of screenwriting is show don't tell. The fact that we never see what the fuck a C-Beam is or what the Tannhauser Gate is just awful writing.

Because feeling grief for the loss of bygone times is something we (that is, people with souls) can all relate to. You wouldn't get it.

I like Bladerunner but it is definetly a movie that does not live up to its hype.
I remember being somewhat disappointed on first watch.

And yet your screenplay isn't being quoted by anyone here.

because he makes us realize how many incredible memories we have that will never be experienced by most people (relationships, first times, sunsets, private conversations, historical events, pure bliss) that can never be fully described or explained to somebody else who hadn't lived them first hand

Literally the only people who don't understand this are complete shut ins

>it's good
No, it isn't, its random improv bulllshit and like every in the movie completely goes against what the story si suppose to be
>and Rutger Haur delivers it well
Wrong

This scene wasn't written

I rewatched it a couple of days ago (if you get the chance to watch it on an OLED with HDR do it. Shit is tasty) but I forgot how camp Batty is. In my mind I had him as some super macho Nexus Six with a gruff voice, but when he’s doing his lines he comes across, for want of a better word, as a bit gay. Leon is the real Alpha of the group, but he’s thick as pigshit, so he’s more like a workhorse. Never really noticed the significance of Batty’s nails either. He’s dying, so his nails are all fucked and grey?

Now that I'm older and more able to identify reddit, I realize this scene was pure reddit.

I just watched it on an OLED, but no HDR (standard blu-ray). I want to get the 4K disc. This is one of my favorite looking movies. I actually felt the opposite about Batty. I've always thought he was a bit gay, but this time watching for some reason he felt a lot more intimidating. His wolf calls and prancing gave me the willies. Very creepy.

The HDR does make it “ping” a lot more, especially the flying car sections where all the lights are going off. Treat yourself, bruv.

not a good movie to be honest.
